Inspiring Conversations with Darshana Patel of Northwest Carrollton Kumon

Today we’d like to introduce you to Darshana Patel.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Driven by my lifelong appreciation for education, I became certified in the Kumon Math and Reading program in 2003. Coming from a family of educators, with uncles who were professors in India, teaching was always a strong calling for me. A conversation with a friend sparked the idea of exploring Kumon, and I decided to pursue it.

For the past 20 years, I have been the driving force behind Kumon of Carrollton – Northwest, where I have taught thousands of students.

I firmly believe in the Kumon method, which focuses on building a strong foundation in math and reading skills for students from pre-kindergarten through high school.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The Kumon system of instruction made transitioning to working for them much easier.

Learning the business side, with my technical background, was harder.

Kumon’s extensive training really helped me bridge the gap between my previous experience and my passion for teaching.

That way, I can focus on teaching the kids and making a positive impact on their lives, and Kumon can handle the rest.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Northwest Carrollton Kumon?
I’m a true believer in the Kumon method. The curriculum is focused on developing the foundation of math and reading skills for students from pre-kindergarten through
high school.

Kumon sets itself apart from its competitors is its focus on creating individualized plan for each
child depending on the mastery of a concept. A child progresses at their own pace and not at set
standards.

The students develops the skill on how to learn themselves rather than from a teacher.
I definitely believe in self-learning because that’s how you have that ability to figure things out
on your own which carry you through school.

That is why the goal of Kumon is to work to bring out the potential of each child so that they
can be a staple of the community. What they learn at Kumon they can use in their life and give
back to the community.
