Inspiring Conversations with Dave Traynor of The Window Connection

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dave Traynor.

Hi Dave, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Having grown up in the shop of Irving Glass and Mirror in the 70’s, a company owned by my mom and dad, it was almost pre-ordained that I would become a window and door guy. I’m just beginning my 41st year as a window and door contractor. I’ve been blessed to earn numerous awards from D-Magazine (Best of Dallas), NT Window Company (Energy Master Dealer of the Year), ThermaTru (Certified Veris Door Installation Contractor), The Pacesetter Organization (Several awards for Quality, Service and Professionalism) and had the joy of being the host of House Talk Texas on 660AM, The Answer. Having started my own business in 1999, I’ve had the privilege of working on tens of thousands of North Texas homes over my career. I have the distinction of being the most award-winning Window and Door Contractor in North Texas. All five star reviews on Google and A+ on the BBB has some impact for many.

Our work is on some of the nicest homes in Dallas where we remove the builders-grade windows and doors and install new energy efficient, lifetime warranty products that offer state of the art performance, often at 25% the cost of some of the biggest, most well advertised names in the industry.

It’s a calling to be servant oriented in a corporate world. We do the highest quality window and door installations in North Texas and yes, Even after 40 years, I’m proud to still wear the tools on occasion and help my crew produce the highest quality product and installation available on people’s most valuable possession, their homes.

We are proud to make new friends, provide an above average product at a reasonable cost and deliver the most detail oriented work in DFW. It’s the most rewarding career anyone could ask for. Meeting people and improving their quality of life. Truly a blessing to all of us.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The shortfall in construction is always the work force and boils down to the quality of caring of the team. In modern society not many people have the eye for detail and the heart for service that you need to do craftsman level window and door installations. While running the company with many employees at junctures in time, it has served our customers and our reputation well to run a small, very well trained crew with lots of engagement from the guy who has done it for 40 years. Actual experience on the jobsite is what really matters, not smooth sales teams or marketing gimmicks. TV Commercials and mailers just run up the costs and don’t bring any real value to the home as far as product or installation.

Our work is better, and our reputation is impeccable in a home improvement industry that sometimes just doesn’t care as much as it should. To be the best isn’t to be the biggest, it is to be the one that cares the most about the end results. It is also the desire to be affordable and keep operating costs as low as possible to bring the most value to the customer’s home. Slick marketing, shiny brochures and expensive showrooms bring nothing to a project. We are proud that our business model is one that is laser focused on the customer and their home. Nothing more, nothing less.

We’ve been impressed with The Window Connection, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
We are proud to offer ten different window and door manufacturers. This allows us to have the right thing for the job as far as product, with literally dozens of models and types of windows available for the perfect fit for each individual home and home owner.

Our YouTube presence boasts more than 200,000 views and our website is nationally known for having the most ground level information, best pictures of products and the most articulate descriptions of what to expect when searching for windows and doors. Having started before there was an internet, we learned decades ago that reputation is everything and happy customers tell their friends, co-workers and family about positive home improvement experiences.

We are also proud to be an authority that has been featured on The Learning Channel and a resource for the WFAA Dream Home in past years. Experience matters and expertise is one of the most important components to a successful home improvement project.

We are proud to be the most award winning window and door contractor in Dallas. Even Siri will tell you so. It’s an honor and a joy beyond words.

Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
Relationships matter. Being kind and having a servant’s attitude is the most important thing to bring to the table. Always conducting business in a way that is in your client’s best interest is key. Care about the people and the business will take care of itself. Be yourself and pour yourself into the well being of others. It goes a long way not just in construction or home improvements, but in life.
