Inspiring Conversations with Dennise Castro of Nailed By Nisse

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dennise Castro.

Hi Dennise, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
It was the summer when I graduated high school in 2009 I was visiting my family in Monterrey, N. L. My aunt had recently finished a three week nail course and I was her model to practice on at home. My mom saw how much she really enjoyed it so she asked me if I was interested in learning if my aunt was willing to teach me. I said yes. I came back home with supplies and CD tutorial. I spent all summer long practicing on myself, friends and family. At first it was a hobby until I decided I wanted to go to beauty school and by 2012 I received my Manicurist license.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Yes, there were some struggles but I did have support. After I received my license, I worked at several nail salons and I was able to learn different techniques like how to use a business software and the importance in location. I went from a bad side of town to a nice busy area in Arlington. I worked there for about 3 years I had good friends and a great clientele. In 2015 after my son was born my clientele had shortened and business slowed down. I needed something stable so I worked in administration for a nursing home in Irving for 2.5 years. Everything was great until I didn’t have a babysitter anymore. I always thought about going back to the beauty industry someday. Coming back was the best decision made.
