Today we’d like to introduce you to Devontae Zachery.
Devontae , we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Since elementary school, I’ve always been focused on creating streams of income. Entrepreneurship wasn’t something I discovered later in life—it’s who I’ve always been. I never really liked traditional jobs; the few I took on were intentional, used as opportunities to build my network, learn systems, and understand how businesses truly operate.
I’ve always treated people with genuine respect, and that alone opened countless doors. Being approachable, dependable, and solution-oriented naturally put me in rooms where opportunities existed. I don’t just spot problems—I fix them, and every solution became a new income stream.
As a bridge kid, I grew up during the transition from analog to digital—loading modems, sharing house phones, and watching technology evolve in real time. Today, I play that same role again, but on a much larger scale—bridging the gap between people.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
One of my greatest struggles in life was serving five years in prison—a chapter that could have broken me, but instead reshaped me. During that time, I also survived a near-death experience, a Final Destination–type wreck where the odds were against me. I was handcuffed to another person when the bus flipped and in that moment, life showed me just how fragile it truly is.
But I’ve always been an optimist. Even in confinement, I chose growth over defeat. I used that time to sharpen my mind, earning an MBA in Entrepreneurship from Baylor University. What began as an idea inside a cell turned into a mission: creating pathways, resources, and opportunities for others who needed a second chance.
While incarcerated, I founded the vision for People of Resources Inc.—a thought that became reality in 2019, just two years after my release. That struggle didn’t define me; it refined me. I turned survival into strategy, setbacks into structure, and pain into purpose—building something that now serves the very community I once needed myself.
