Today we’d like to introduce you to Doug Knight.
Hi Doug, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I am a single dad, and for a long time I felt like I was never going to get ahead—financially or in terms of lifestyle. I reached a point where it became clear that if I did not make a meaningful change, nothing was going to change. As a single earner, being entirely dependent on the job security of a traditional career made peace of mind difficult to come by.
During spring break, a close friend said to me, “I think you’d be really good at this—let’s go talk to Brian.” I had no idea what we were walking into, and I’ll be the first to admit I knew absolutely nothing about window cleaning at the time. What my friend was really referring to, though, was my ability to connect with people—to communicate easily, build rapport, and earn trust. Those are skills I had developed over a lifetime, especially while working in the service industry during college.
I came home and invested roughly $6,000 into tools, licensing, insurance, and getting the business set up properly, then I just went all in. I practiced relentlessly—on my own house, on friends’ homes, and anywhere I could within my network. I quickly realized I was completely hooked—not so much on the act of cleaning windows itself, but on the administration, strategy, and hustle of building a small business. At this point, it feels like a competitive hobby in the best possible way.
The growth has been overwhelmingly organic, and the community support has been incredible. My two young kids are fully bought in—they’ll say things like, “Hey, we should go talk to those guys about windows,” which always makes me laugh. I’ve recently reached the point where I’m purchasing a dedicated work truck and having it fully vinyl wrapped with my branding.
Today, I consistently rank in the top three Google results for window cleaning, depending on the search term and location. The momentum has been exciting, but more than anything, I feel deeply connected to my community. Being out in town, building real relationships, and creating something of my own has been incredibly rewarding.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Overall, the process of building the business has been relatively smooth—slower than I would have liked at times, but not especially difficult. I’ve owned a few businesses over the years, so I understood the importance of getting the proper paperwork, licensing, and insurance in place early. While that can certainly feel intimidating for someone new to entrepreneurship, it was not a major obstacle for me.
The biggest challenge by far was generating the initial momentum. Building a business is a lot like pushing a car: getting it to move from a dead stop takes an enormous amount of effort, and progress feels incremental at best. Once it’s rolling, though, keeping it moving becomes much easier. That has been my exact experience with Window Wranglers. The early days required a tremendous amount of energy just to gain visibility and traction, but now I’m seeing steady, organic growth.
Breaking through that initial “unknown” phase in the community was difficult. While online presence is critical in modern business, there is still no substitute for face-to-face interaction. What ultimately helped me push through that stage was getting out, meeting other local business owners, having real conversations, and earning their support. Those relationships became the foundation that allowed the business to gain momentum and continue growing
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Window Wranglers LLC specializes in restoring curb appeal and clarity to residential and commercial glass, including windows, doors, and solar panels. Clean glass is one of those details you don’t notice—until you do. Much like a buzzing speaker, once you’re aware of it, it becomes impossible to ignore. Our work brings that clarity back and elevates how a property looks and feels. We are particularly known for handling hard-to-reach and technically demanding projects. Whether it’s a residential dormer 50 feet above a tile roof or commercial glass requiring a 40-foot scissor lift, we have the experience, training, and equipment to access and service nearly any situation safely and effectively. What truly sets Window Wranglers apart is the experience we provide, not just the results. I am widely known for being one of the friendliest home service professionals in North Texas, and I take pride in creating an environment where clients feel comfortable, respected, and genuinely cared for—as if we’ve known each other for years. That personal connection is paired with technical work defined by consistency, accountability, and a guaranteed outcome. I’m also known by many clients as “the tool guy.” Professional window cleaning requires specialized equipment, including water-fed poles, purified water systems, commercial-grade squeegees, safe ladder configurations, and proper detergents. I maintain multiple variations of these tools to ensure each job is done correctly, efficiently, and without risk to the property. Brand-wise, I am most proud of entering 2026 with a fully dedicated, vinyl-wrapped service truck. It represents professionalism, credibility, and preparedness—and serves as a mobile hub that allows us to deliver a seamless, high-quality service experience every time.
How do you define success?
To me, success is the ability to set clear goals, define the steps required to reach them, and then follow through. It is not measured solely by revenue or business growth, but by alignment—between work, family, and personal priorities.
Work-life balance is a meaningful part of that definition. One personal benchmark I consistently strive to meet is being present for my family, including attending at least 80% of my children’s sports practices. Being able to make it to peewee football or girls’ basketball multiple weeknights, while still completing my professional responsibilities during the day, represents success to me.
This mindset translates directly into how I operate day to day. I rely heavily on structured task lists and intentional planning, which create momentum through small, consistent wins throughout the week. Over time, those wins compound into meaningful progress—both professionally and personally.
