Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. Sandy Davis (Anchor Psychology Group).
Hi Dr. Sandy, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Anchor Psychology Group is the joint creation of myself, and my co-founder, Dr. Lindsay Ballinger. We originally met in 2015 when I became her clinical supervisor during her graduate program. Over the years, we developed a strong professional relationship and decided our values and personalities aligned in such a way as to found our practice together.
Myself and Dr. Ballinger share similar backgrounds; we both served our communities in community mental health and nonprofit work before transitioning to private practice. Dr. Ballinger and I are passionate about mental health, having tapped into our desires to support individuals, couples, and families from an early age. We founded Anchor Psychology Group in 2020, while facing the challenges of Covid and becoming new business owners.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Starting a business in the early days of the pandemic was tricky. We essentially opened our practice and then transitioned immediately to telehealth to protect our patients’ well-being and maintaining the expensive office space was at times challenging. I believe the success we have found is a direct result of the friendship and esteem Dr. Ballinger and I share for each other and our strong and open communication. This has made navigating our challenges smooth, as we have always done so jointly and with one another’s support.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
To me, Anchor Psychology Group is special because of our diversity. Not only among our clinicians, but in our ability to serve a wide range of patient populations. As an example, I specialize in trauma and LGBTQIA populations, while Dr. Ballinger’s specialties include couples and chronic illness. We both have strong backgrounds working with children and adolescents, and as well as parents and families. The clinicians employed with Anchor Psychology Group also serve a range of client needs and we are a training site for graduate students. This allows us to utilize interns who charge incredibly low fees to help improve access to mental health services for low-income individuals and families, while simultaneously providing the needed skills training for clinicians trying to enter the field.
In these ways, we can serve almost any need for the people in need in our community. Improving access to mental health services is our mission.
So, before we go, how can our readers or others connect or collaborate with you? How can they support you?
Anchor Psychology Group does our best to find the best possible fit for patients and clients in need and when not feasible, we try to provide appropriate referrals to other trusted clinicians in the area. Sharing our information to people in need and contacting us through our website is the best way to both support and access our services.
