Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. Shalin Patel.
Alright, thank you for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, how did you get started?
From a young age, I was extremely fascinated by architecture and design. I remember going with my parents to a house in the Hollywood Hills as a child. My parents drove us there from rural Mississippi. They barely made ends meet and lived in a poor part of town. When we arrived, I remember getting out of the car, astounded at this place. The house’s incredible view opened my eyes to what was possible as a small immigrant child seeing the American Dream up close. No kidding, from that point on, I became obsessed with making my dreams come true! The homeowner, I found out that day, was a dentist, so that was my first step. I became a dentist and, through 15 years of hard work, dedication, and loyalty, became a Partner in a dental company that today supports dental offices across the nation, and it truly changed the course of my life. The success of my entrepreneurial drive led me to build my own home, and in the process, I rediscovered my obsession with architecture, design, marketing, and well, 100 Million Design + Build was born.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
My entrepreneurial journey has been extremely rewarding but not smooth. I experience excitement as an entrepreneur that has everything to do with getting better and better at problem-solving. Success has come in many forms, mostly from learning after making mistakes and realizing that every setback is an opportunity for exponential growth. Breakdowns are merely breakthroughs in disguise; it took me time to realize this. The biggest part of my success in dentistry was creating a scalable team-orientated training program. It was a huge challenge, and I have spent over 15 years working on it daily, but it has been worth every effort. I’ve had some incredibly painful moments, as most entrepreneurs have, and every one of them has made me a better leader. I saw what it takes to be successful, watching my parents dedicate themselves to working day and night, every single day, with no vacation, no weekends, or holidays, as immigrants from India to the US so they could afford to feed us and pay rent. Their hard work resulted in success, instilling a drive in me to create my path. Their hardships inspired me and provided me with proof that the best in life and business is on the flip side of the toughest challenges. Was it a smooth journey, absolutely not, but I wouldn’t trade it for the world!

I am proud to say we have an incredible team. This team I have assembled has over 40 years of experience and 150+ projects. We focus on the finite details of every home, and help our clients enjoy the process of watching their home come alive and engage them in understanding what quality looks and feels like, making every home a sensory experience.
Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc.?
All my TV time goes towards movies and shows my kids are into. I love watching these shows to see what they are into and feel nostalgic for being a kid again. I’m obsessed with my health – eating well and working out daily. I am always looking for ways to improve the way I feel. Interestingly, this past year, I cut out watching all sports and almost all drinking, saving an incredible amount of time. I spend more with my kids and make my days exponentially more productive. I also consume many things, real estate, and motivational speaking, to draw on the inspiration for my next projects and passions. I am also working on writing a book that will hopefully be published next year that highlights my daily practices, which have led to my personal, professional, and financial success. This is the second book I’ve written, so I have been having a lot of fun with it, and hopefully, it will inspire the next generation of entrepreneurs!
