Hi Dunice, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Dunice Harrell Photography began with a simple idea – to utilize the power of photography to shine a light on the next generation and empower them to see their potential. The pivotal moment in my journey was the realization of the significant impact professional photography could have on the younger generations, especially those from underserved communities. In March 2023, a revealing moment marked the birth of a campaign to support students from low-income families. Recognizing the financial barriers that hindered some students from commemorating this significant milestone with professional portraits, I kicked off a campaign and called on family and friends to join in donating funds to provide complimentary senior portraits to these students. Hence, the inception of the “Gift of a Lifetime” campaign, a mission-driven initiative designed to provide complimentary and discounted professional senior portraits to students facing financial challenges. This program is about instilling confidence, celebrating achievements, and opening doors to a brighter future for these young adults.
For me, photography represents a celebration of potential, captured one portrait at a time, and a commitment to making a difference in the lives of young individuals. Through the “Gift of a Lifetime” initiative, I aspire to extend this impact further, ensuring that every student, regardless of their financial background, can have their achievements immortalized in a way that they deserve. This year, I’m kicking off this campaign for a second year, hoping to reach more students and greater community impact.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It has been smooth as it pertains to locating students who aren’t able to afford senior portraits. As expected, the struggle is around raising funds to support more students in need and securing consistent studio space to support the growth.
