Today we’d like to introduce you to Elle Capan.
Hi Elle, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
From a young age, I was always drawn to fashion. I was the kid getting dressed up for preschool like it was Fashion Week and sketching outfits during story time. Creativity was never just a hobby, it was how I moved through the world.
That passion led me to New York, where I studied Fashion Marketing and immersed myself in the industry, from styling to showroom work. Being in that environment pushed me creatively, but also made me realize I wanted to build something of my own.
My sister and I kept talking about pieces we felt were missing, so I started sewing and making them myself. What began as just creating for us quickly grew into something more, and eventually became jo&jean.
After recently moving to Dallas, we officially launched the brand together. It’s very personal to us, named after our grandmothers, and rooted in intention, quality, and pieces that feel elevated but effortless. We’re still early, but that’s what makes it exciting as there’s so much more we want to build.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It definitely hasn’t been a completely smooth road. Building something from the ground up comes with a lot of unknowns, and there are constant challenges. Whether it’s production delays, figuring out the right fits, or just learning how to navigate everything behind the scenes.
I think one of the biggest shifts for me was realizing things don’t have to be perfect to move forward. Early on, I felt like I needed everything fully figured out, but building a brand really teaches you to adapt quickly and solve as you go.
There are always moments that feel challenging, but I’ve learned to see them as part of the process. Every setback has made us more thoughtful, more intentional, and ultimately better at what we’re building.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
jo&jean is a women’s fashion brand I co-founded with my sister, Erica, focused on timeless, elevated pieces with a modern feel. We design with intention, everything from the silhouette to the fabric to the smallest details is thoughtfully considered. Our goal is to create pieces that feel effortless but still stand out in a subtle, refined way.
What sets us apart is how personal the brand is. It’s named after our grandmothers, and that sense of legacy is woven into everything we create. We’re not chasing trends, we’re focused on pieces you can come back to season after season that still feel relevant and special.
We’re also very hands-on. From the initial concept to production, we’re involved in every step, which allows us to really refine the fit and details in a way that feels true to our vision.
What I’m most proud of is building something that feels authentic. Every piece is created with intention, and you can feel that when you wear it. At the end of the day, we want jo&jean to make getting dressed feel easy, elevated, and confident.
In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
I think the biggest shift we’re already starting to see is technology in the space. AI is already being used for design, forecasting, and personalization, and it’s only going to become more integrated. I also think there’s going to be a bigger emphasis on authenticity. With so much content and even AI-generated visuals, people are craving things that feel real. Real craftsmanship, real stories, and brands with a stronger focus on quality, intention, and emotional connection. Which I think is a really exciting direction.
