Today we’d like to introduce you to Emily Prague.
Hi Emily, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I’ve always been an artsy person. Growing up, I was drawing whatever caught my eye or what I was fascinated with. In middle school and high school, I was in both art and band, and absolutely loved having those creative outlets. After high school, I wasn’t sure what to do, and after taking some college courses as well as becoming a certified medical assistant, I was introduced to permanent makeup. I didn’t stick with that for too long before learning about fineline tattooing and falling in love with it. Since then I’ve been working as a full time tattoo artist – doing what I love every day!
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It definitely has not been a smooth road. I didn’t always have someone to mentor me or guide me in the beginning. On top of developing my skills, I had to learn a lot of the business side on my own. Starting and managing an LLC, building a clientele, filing taxes, etc. For the first year or two I was offering free or heavily discounted services to gain experience and trust, and it took lots of time to get the clients I am so fortunate to have now. Getting to this point required persistence and hard work, but that’s made this experience so much more meaningful to me. I’m incredibly thankful to the women who have supported me and helped me along the way!
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about InkEm LLC?
I’m an independent fineline tattoo artist based in a private studio! I specialize in delicate, dainty tattoos, catering mostly to a female audience . My mission is to provide a safe, welcoming space where everyone feels comfortable and heard throughout the whole process. I’m so proud to say that our studio is women-owned and operated. I strive to be the artist someone can trust not only for a dainty tattoo – but for the positive experience from start to finish.
What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
The most important lesson I’ve learned is growth often requires taking risks. In the beginning, I took a huge risk quitting my job as a medical assistant to pursue tattooing. This meant investing a lot of time, money, and patience in this career I was totally brand new to. Looking back now, it’s incredibly rewarding to reflect on how far I’ve come and see the results of my work.
