

Today we’d like to introduce you to Emma Tessler.
Emma, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I was first introduced to the world of digital marketing in 2015 at a college summer internship. At this internship, my mentor was growing her brand and wanted to expand into the online space. Since I was the youngest person on the team, this was tasked to me to figure out how to spread the word about her work through social media. This was an entirely new concept to me at the time, as it was for many during this era of social media.
While most brands weren’t looking at social media as a viable business-generating medium in 2015, I saw the vast potential these platforms gave brands and got excited about being a part of this change in business.
As that summer came to a close, I began to make plans for how I could help more brands expand their reach using this incredible new modem. Over the next 5 years, I continued taking on more clients while working as an Interior Designer in NYC. I built a small team and expanded our services to serve more brands who needed the work we offer.
Still, brands were hesitant to go all-in on their digital marketing. Many weren’t sure it was the best avenue to reach their target market. However, when COVID-19 hit in 2020, this all changed. All of a sudden, brands were forced to get online since they could no longer connect in person.
This was the year Ninety Five Media was truly born. With experience under our belt and the results to back our work, we quickly grew as an agency that approached digital marketing uniquely, helping our clients monetize their online presence.
Today, we are a female team of nine, building results-driven digital marketing strategies for scaling brands, and have no plans of slowing down any time soon.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
My experience in entrepreneurship has not been “smooth”, nor has it been linear. However, I think this is one of the beautiful parts of entrepreneurship and what keeps so many of us coming back for more.
One of the biggest challenges we’ve faced is creating a superior customer experience that allows Ninety Five Media to stand out from the crowd. Over the past few years, there has been a huge boom in people wanting to become social media managers and entering the digital marketing space. While there will always be saturation, I look at this as a positive rather than a negative. This makes us think bigger and consider how we can set ourselves apart.
When it comes to customer service, we’ve found that building scalable systems that create communication transparency between the client and team yield the best results. Of course, we also love treating our clients with gifts and sending them surprises, but at the end of the day, it’s how you make your client feel that matters most. We always aim to go above and beyond set expectations.
Facing challenges like this provides a wonderful learning opportunity and is something that is ever-evolving for us. I’m sure our current customer experience will continue to be challenged and upgraded again and again in the years to come, which is exciting to think about.

What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
The characteristic that has been most important to our company’s success is a “forever student” mentality. In an industry that is ever-changing daily, it’s crucial that we stay on top of both big and small changes. This requires a mindset that is humble and open to change. We do not do things the way we did them a year ago or even six months ago. This ability to overcome and pivot frequently has kept us growing at an impressive rate year over year since we first began, and is a quality that each of our team members embody.
