Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. Erica Rodriguez.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
After sustaining an injury while playing collegiate basketball I pursued physical therapy. Sports were always a big part of my life so the profession was a great fit. I earned my doctorate of physical therapy at the University of North Texas Health Science Center in Fort Worth in 2014. After working in an outpatient orthopedic clinic for several years I decided to create 4th Quarter Recovery last summer. Soon after I decided to pursue my business full time and quit my clinic position. I knew my passion was helping athletes and being a part of their process so they could perform at their highest level.
The business has taken off and is catered to elite athletes at every level. After doing well with several of the NFL, NBA, and nationally ranked high school players it led to word-of-mouth referrals which has made up most of my clientele.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Any time you take a leap of faith to start your own business it comes with challenges. I started 4th Quarter Recovery as a side business for the first 8 months. I was putting in long hours due to still working 40 hours in a clinic for another company on top of trying to grow my business. At the end of March 2021, I decided to let go of the financial stability and bet on myself. I was comfortable with a consistent paycheck but I knew in order to dedicate all my attention to 4th Quarter Recovery I had to let it go. I would say there is extra stress in many different areas but I would not go back. This is exactly what I want to be doing.
I formed great relationships along the way with those who gave me a chance when I did not have the clients I have now. The list is long but D. Rob (David Robinson), NFL wide receiver trainer, was the first person to let me work with him. I will never forget that. Then different guys in the sports world like Stacy Houston, Walsh Jordan, Curtis Brown, Tim Martin, and my guy Tyus Momoh all have given me an opportunity or connected me with others to take my business to the next level. The support from my parents and those close to me have made the road much smoother.
As you know, we’re big fans of 4th Quarter Recovery. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
4th Quarter Recovery addresses injury, post-operative care, wellness, recovery, return to sport rehabilitation, concussion management, and injury prevention. I work with the highest-level athletes to prevent injuries and help them reach their full potential without limitations during competition due to their body.
I customize all my sessions according to what the athlete needs. I provide education in other categories that affect the recovery process as well. My athletes receive a full-body approach when they work with me. I can perform dry needling, exercise prescription, cupping, manipulations, and many hands-on techniques.
My clients are working with a professional that had obtained a doctorate degree and is committed to life-long learning. I have their best interest at heart and want them to succeed which I feel is what I pride myself in. I truly care about my athletes and you can find me attending their games in my free time.
Do you have any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
Going to the gym with my dad when he would play pick up. I would always get to shoot around between games when I could barely reach the hoop.
