Today we’d like to introduce you to Fernanda Roel.
Hi Fernanda, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Honestly, the last thing I expected was to end up working in construction. Growing up, I spent 11 years in competitive dance and 12 years in competitive cheerleading. So how did I end up here? Why is my car covered in dirt instead of glitter? (laughs) I guess the discipline from all those years of extracurriculars built me into the entrepreneur I am today. Thank you, Mom, for driving me to practice for 13 years straight!
I was born in Dallas, Texas, but my family later moved to Monterrey, Mexico, before eventually returning to Dallas. When we came back, I was 15 — and I didn’t speak or understand English at all. It’s surreal to think that just seven years ago, my mind could only process one language.
The entrepreneurial dream began with my father, Gilberto Roel Galindo, a lifelong general contractor whose determination and resilience shaped the foundation of our lives. His philosophy has always been simple yet powerful: “My goal is to make you better than me.” He was the first entrepreneur in his family — the one bold enough to believe in himself and his ability to solve problems. Alongside him, my beautiful mother, Ketzely Roel Martinez, dedicated her life to raising and supporting us, ensuring we were always set up for success. I truly wouldn’t be the person I am today without their sacrifices.
I was fortunate to grow up in a family that never told me my goals had to be “realistic.” On the contrary, I was always encouraged to take on more. That support shaped me into someone who doesn’t understand the word “impossible.”
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It might be hard to believe, but our business was founded in 2020. I was only 19 at the time, and my business partner — my younger brother — was just 17. This is where our dad comes in for credibility. After all, who in their right mind would trust two teenagers with construction specs? Well, you’d be surprised. We started small, taking on community jobs like tree replacements, grass installations, and plant beds. Much of our early work was funded by HOA letters — things like ‘you have 10 shrubs, but guidelines require 15.’
As people began to recognize us as a trustworthy business, we knew it was time to step up. We invested in classes and certifications in landscaping, construction, OSHA, and contracting. With young minds, learning came quickly, and we absorbed everything we could. My brother, Junior, is studying architecture, so he became the expert in construction specs, blueprints, and drawings — in fact, he’s the one who taught me how to read them. Once we mastered that, we began reaching out to contractors and pursuing commercial jobs. And in case you’re wondering, who in their right mind would trust two teenagers with construction specs? (Well, we were in our twenties by then) — Chick-fil-A was the first franchise that trusted us. #eatmorechicken
Today, we’re trying to get into the category of “New Builders” working with Lennar or DR Horton. I remember walking into the DR Horton offices to talk to the director of purchasing, Mrs. Corcoran, she was sweet but at the time we were not as big and capable as we are now. Now we are ready, and Mrs. Corcoran might get a call again this year or the next. I also walked into the Lennar headquarters, and being frankly honest I had no idea what I was doing. I talked to the Purchase manager of the area Mr. Feuerbacher; it was quick since he was busy with meetings. I just wanted to shake his hand, make our business name familiar and get his contact information, he said that he had plenty of landscapers, but he added us to his BID list. He also might get a call this year or the next.
The days I walked into those places, I felt quite small and uncomfortable. I reminded myself that in order to grow you have to be comfortable in the “uncomfortable”. Anybody that is good at doing anything was once a beginner too. In our business I am the one that knocks doors, gets our name out there. I do marketing, social media, and emails. I am an extrovert; on the other hand, my brother is the opposite. He is doing all the work behind the scenes, Excel sheets, Weekly/Monthly/Yearly reports, Administration, Profits, Payroll. He has memorized all of it, he is so smart and so capable. We both need each other for the business to work seamlessly. We’ve now passed the five-year mark — a milestone, considering that nearly 50% of businesses fail within their first five years of operation.
We can’t wait to see what this business will look like in the future! We are ready for all the challenges that come ahead. After all, who will have my back and protect me more than my brother.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about TreesXSale?

What were you like growing up?
This is a rather humorous question because my entrepreneurial journey began at a very young age. Although my family was financially comfortable, my father never gave us anything for free. Many of my toys were earned through academic excellence or athletic achievements. My very first business, called “La Rica Empanada”, began when I was just seven years old. Empanadas are a traditional Mexican dessert—flaky dough filled with sweet caramel. They are absolutely delicious, and one of my personal favorites.
However, there was one challenge: I didn’t know how to make them. Technically, that was a problem until I discovered the principles of supply and demand. I began purchasing empanadas from a nearby bakery and selling them throughout my neighborhood afterschool. My service was simple: delivering sweets directly to customers’ doorsteps. I even created stickers with my logo and maintained a detailed journal, tracking my earnings, expenses for restocking, and the money I would give my brother for helping carry the boxes. (laughs) He has been my trusted business partner from the very start!
