Today we’d like to introduce you to Gilberto Quintero.
Hi Gilberto, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started mowing lawns in 2021 as a side hustle on the weekends. At the time, I was working at as a restaurant manager in the North Dallas, working 60+ hours a week. We started by knocking on doors, posting ads on social media, Craigslist, and anything in between. For the first 6 months, we had no work, really started to have second thoughts about this. I was getting worried because I had left the restaurant to focus on landscaping, and money was not coming, and bills started to pile up.
Thankfully I got a couple of customers, phone started ringing, and I was getting bombarded with work. The following winter we filed an LLC under Quintero’s Landscape!
How we got here?
A lot of discipline, networking, and passion.
I have a military background, and some of the leadership that was shown to me was applied to my business. Networking, I know fellow business owners in Oak Cliff, friends, and family that refer me. Passion, I have a love with landscaping, it’s my stress reliever, I always look forward to mow a lawn, do a project and/or trim a tree. For the past three years, I had the privilege to watch the sunrise with working, definitely makes me appreciate our world.
This is our third year, and we hope to still manage and service my community!
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Definitely not a smooth road. It takes a lot of time to get the business off the floor and running.
One of my biggest struggles was myself…
I’m my own worst enemy, critic, and doubter. I stutter, and that makes it a bit challenging to sell some jobs, not to make it sound as an excuse, I always embrace my stuttering in the down moments.
Another one happened this past year in 2022. I partnered with a Property Management Company that gave me over 60 properties to maintain. 8 months working for them, and they let me go and hired another crew. That was my first eye-opener of having a business, finically we were doing great until they let us go, that was about 40% of our revenue. We’re still building back up! Head up and keep pushing!
We’ve been impressed with Quintero’s Landscape LLC, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
