Today we’d like to introduce you to Grace Lee.
Hi Grace, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I was born and raised in Paris, France, to South Korean parents. Growing up between two very different cultures, I often felt caught between worlds: never fully French, yet not entirely Korean either. Over time, though, I came to see this dual identity as my greatest strength and pride. It taught me open-mindedness, empathy, and the ability to connect with people from diverse backgrounds.
I attended dental school in Paris, where I discovered my passion for dentistry. It quickly became more than a profession; it became a vocation. I find great fulfillment in helping patients improve not only their oral health but also their overall well-being. While collaborating on complex cases, I developed a particular interest in orthodontics, which inspired me to move to the U.S. to pursue advanced training. I completed my residency at the University of Pennsylvania, an Ivy League institution renowned for its orthodontic program.
Afterward, my husband and I decided to settle in the Dallas–Fort Worth area, where we bought our first home and welcomed our first child. Having worked in both corporate and private practice settings, I eventually felt called to open my own practice to create a space where I could care for patients and lead my team according to my values. I named my practice “Karis,” a Greek word meaning grace, favor, and loving-kindness. In the Bible, it represents God’s grace, which is the foundation of my life and my practice.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It’s definitely been a journey with many hills and valleys. One of the hardest parts of building a practice has been learning to wear so many different hats. I was trained to be an orthodontist, but I also had to become a business owner, manager, and marketer all at once. Along the way, I found myself learning about everything from plumbing and electrical work to architectural and interior design, and HR laws.
At the same time, I was navigating motherhood with a young child, which brought its own unique challenges and joys. Balancing both roles wasn’t easy, but I quickly realized that I didn’t have to do it all alone. I’ve been incredibly fortunate to work with talented professionals who helped bring the vision of Karis Orthodontics to life. My husband and our community have also been an essential part of my support system, and I truly wouldn’t be where I am today without them.
In many ways, this practice feels like my second child because, just like raising a child, building a practice takes a village.

Are there any books, apps, podcasts or blogs that help you do your best?
I draw inspiration from several resources that keep me grounded and growing in both work and life. Steadfast Motherhood by The Daily Grace Co. has been especially powerful in helping me balance faith, motherhood, and career. Books like The Power of Habit by Charles Duhigg, Grit by Angela Duckworth, and Start with Why by Simon Sinek have shaped how I think about purpose, perseverance, and leadership. And honestly, ChatGPT has become a great everyday tool.
Professionally, I make it a priority to attend continuing education courses and conferences to stay up to date with the latest advancements in the field. I also value connecting and exchanging ideas with colleagues and mentors. It’s one of the best ways to grow both as a doctor and as a businesswoman.
