Today we’d like to introduce you to Jalisa Buck.
Jalisa, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I was born in a small town of a small state called Delaware, and grew up moving all over – Pennsylvania, the DMV, and then down south to North Carolina and Georgia because of my family’s military background. By the time I finished high school, I’d been to over 10 different schools! Moving around so much taught me how to adapt quickly to new situations. Making deep friendships was tough since I never knew when I’d be leaving again, but the real ones who stuck with me through all those moves really mean the world to me now.
After high school, I joined the Army as a medical administration specialist. Surprisingly, that’s where I discovered I’m actually a natural leader – something I had no clue about before. I spent almost a decade in medical admin, and it really showed me I’m good at organizing chaos and solving tricky problems.
I started feeling this pull to work for myself but wasn’t quite sure how to make that happen. I first tried an online boutique, but quickly realized that wasn’t my thing. Then I got my real estate license and started getting really interested in the marketing and sales side of the business.
While studying Business at Troy University, I found my true passion for marketing, branding and business development. I just loved understanding how people think and what makes them choose one brand over another. So I started One Woman Brand Co., helping small businesses – mostly real estate professionals – build their brands, design websites, and create logos.
After about 4 years, I took a big step and launched Vital Visions Business Solutions as my umbrella company. Under that, I created Evolution Of SHE, which is my amazing faith-centered network for women business owners and entrepreneurs. It’s all about helping them lead boldly in both faith and business.
In the past year, I became certified as a business consultant through the US Institute of Diplomacy and Human Rights (USIDHR). I’m using all these skills and certifications in my business now – helping purpose-driven brands look as amazing on the outside as they truly are on the inside. We create premium brand identities, aligned messaging, and implement those intentional systems that make everything run smoothly.
Each step of my journey has built on the last one, and I believe I am exactly where I’m supposed to be!
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Starting One Woman Brand Co. came with its own challenges. I had the design skills, but the business side was completely different – setting prices, managing client expectations, and handling the financial aspects were all huge learning curves. I undercharged for my services for too long because I lacked confidence in my value.
There were definitely months where I wondered if I could pay my bills. The feast-or-famine cycle of freelance and client work was something I wasn’t prepared for. Some months were great, and others left me questioning everything. Starting busines s of any kind is definitely a faith-walk. You have to believe that the vision God gave you is going to come to past, no matter what it looks like now.
When I launched Vital Visions and Evolution Of SHE, I faced the challenge of scaling beyond just me. Delegating tasks and learning to trust others with parts of my vision can be uncomfortable but necessary. I realized that if you can do everything in your vision, it’s not big enough!
One of the biggest struggles is balancing work and my personal life. As a business owner, it’s easy to work all the time, and I had to learn (the hard way) how to create boundaries and make time for my personal life.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Vital Visions Business Solutions is a company that focuses on helping purpose-driven brands make a meaningful impact. What sets us apart is our commitment to bridging the gap between the incredible services our clients offer and how they’re perceived in the marketplace.
At Vital Visions, our mission is simple—we empower leaders, entrepreneurs, and business owners to build, sustain, and grow purpose-driven businesses and brands. We work with clients who are are genuinely looking to make a difference in the world beyond the profit.
Under the Vital Visions umbrella, I created Evolution Of SHE, a faith-centered network specifically for women business owners and leaders in the DFW area and globally. This community provides a unique space where women don’t have to compartmentalize their faith and business ambitions—they can bring their whole selves and grow in both areas simultaneously.
What truly distinguishes us is our holistic approach. We don’t just create attractive logos or websites (though we certainly do that too!). We dive deep into the psychology behind branding, understanding how people think and what drives their decisions when choosing brands to support.
We use our skills and training to provide premium branding, strategic messaging, and implementation of intentional systems that help our clients succeed. We create spaces and brands that resonate with our clients’ purpose, connect with their audience, and make lasting impacts in their communities.
When clients work with us, they don’t just walk away with beautiful visuals. They leave with clarity, confidence, connections, and the tools they need to attract high-level opportunities. For those who need additional support, we offer coaching and community to help them step fully into making the impact they were created to make!
Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
For finding mentors, I’ve had the most success with being intentional and specific. Instead of looking for general mentorship, I identified people who excelled in areas where I wanted to grow and reached out with clear, focused questions. The key was showing I valued their specific expertise rather than just wanting generic guidance.
One approach that worked really well was offering value before asking for help. Before approaching potential mentors, I would engage with their content, share thoughtful comments on their posts, or find small ways to support their work. This established a relationship first, making the mentorship request feel more natural. Also, remember that a mentor is not going to chase you down, you have to seek them and follow-up often! If you want it, you’re going to have to work for it!
As for networking, I’ve found that genuine connection beats collecting business cards any day. Instead of trying to meet everyone at events, I focus on having meaningful conversations with a few people. Following up afterward with something personalized—maybe an article related to our conversation or a specific resource they mentioned needing—has helped turn those initial meetings into lasting relationships. I also get on a lot of zoom meetings with people I meet, just to get to know them. This virtual networking strategy is a game changer for me and my business. I suggest opening a few hours on your calendar each week to just meet with people that you meet on social media or in person, as a means to connect!
Online communities have been game-changers too. Finding niche groups related to branding and faith-centered business allowed me to connect with like-minded people across geographic boundaries. That’s actually how Evolution Of SHE started—from seeing the need for a community where women could discuss both faith and business in the same space.
The most valuable networking advice I can give is to be consistently visible and helpful. When you regularly show up, share your knowledge, and support others without expecting immediate return, people remember you and opportunities naturally follow.
