Today we’d like to introduce you to James Immeker.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My story started when I started working at the church we attended in 2008, I was hired on as a maintenance worker after I lost my job doing IT work for several years after moving from South Dakota in 2006. I loved what I did in IT and the company I was working for. Never in my wildest dreams did I ever think I would be doing maintenance! Becoming a Maintenance Director for 2 assisted living facilities in Texas, a large Nursing home in South Dakota and long term care and skilled nursing facility in Olathe Kansas. After I was “let go” in September 2024 at my last assisted living/memory care facility in Denton Texas, we (my wife and I) & (GOD) determined that I should start my own handyman business. As of today I still own the business but have been working with a contractor for the time being since things have slowed just a bit for me. I don’t plan on stopping anytime soon. I would like to add a employee or two down the road.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I found out soon that I was not fully equipped for some jobs due to the lack of some tools. My wife Lynne did the website for the business. That has definitely been a roller coaster ride, lots of time trying to find the right company to have the right fit for what’s we needed as a small company. Getting on google reviews was a huge challenge. Lots of late nights, extra expenses such as insurance, online ads, making sure customers do write a review, (lots of them don’t)-even though i ask nicely. Making sure i keep receipts and track mileage, I have met some great people along the way and that makes the business worth all the struggles.

HandymanProJim offers many different types of services including minor plumbing such as replacing toilets, faucets, recaulking sinks and tubs/showers, garbage disposals, slow or clogged drains. Minor electrical such as light fixtures, ceiling fans, outlets or light switches. Light drywall repair, patching holes, nail holes. Trim around windows, light painting, door jambs, garage door jambs. Door locks, handles and door closures. Furniture assembly, TV mounting, cleaning gutters/downspouts, dryer vent cleaning, hanging pictures, Home Maintenance make ready services and many other services.
I am independent and I serve the surrounding Fort Worth area, around a 20 mile radius. I am available also for emergency services. I am known for my quality work and my friendly attitude. I believe in a fair price for a quality service and a guarantee. if I can’t fix it i will be up front an let the customer know instead of pretending to know and not doing a correct fix. I am a Christian and I believe that I have a responsibility to be upfront and that Honesty is extremely important to me because I value relationships.
Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
Well, I would have to say that my wife is my biggest cheerleader! She has really been the steering wheel behind the business. She has spent so much time getting the website up and running, finding things online to help me to get some better direction for the business. My mother in law has also been a huge supporter as she has given out my business cards to friends of hers from the complex she lives at to her Sunday school class at the church she attends.
The contractor I have been working with over the last few months has really helped me as I have learned much from him and has helped me get more work.
