Today we’d like to introduce you to Jamie Gonzales.
Jamie, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I was born and raised in McKinney. I went to Texas Tech for undergrad and law school, knowing I always wanted to return to the Metroplex to help my community. I was lucky enough to work for a firm in Denton County and worked there for several years. During the height of the pandemic, I was able to venture on my own and create my own firm. I am now able to serve Collin, Dallas, Denton, Grayson, and Wise Counties and help defend my community.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Starting a business during the pandemic was certainly filled with challenges. It wasn’t always easy meeting clients and having meetings via Zoom. I think something gets lost in the personal approach I bring when you’re only talking via webcams. However, I think those challenges helped me learn to adapt quickly. I am grateful we are back to in person hearings as it allows me to fully engage my clients and help them in ways you can’t do via webcam.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I represent the Metroplex in criminal defense cases ranging from DWIs and other misdemeanors to first-degree felonies that carry large criminal penalties. I also defend parents against Child Protective Services (CPS) and in family law matters such as divorces or custody issues.
I take pride in getting to know my clients so I can get the best outcome for their situation. No two cases are the same and I approach my practice with that mentality. I believe the law is not one size fits all. When people come into my office their lives are often at a crossroads; my job extends beyond the courtroom, and I work to help get them back on track.
Who else deserves credit in your story?
I grew up in a blended family and had two hard-working blue-collar parents. I learned very early on that hard work and attention to detail are essential for success. I pride myself on the foundations that were instilled in me and strive every day to be a better attorney for my clients.
Being the youngest of seven, I was forced to problem-solve and negotiate for anything I wanted. I refined these tools at Texas Tech and use them every day in my practice as I advocate for my clients.
Every past experience has helped mold the attorney I am today, and I push myself to build upon that and never settle for less than perfection.
