Inspiring Conversations with Jasmine Taylor of Baddies and Budgets

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jasmine Taylor

Hi Jasmine, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
In early 2021 I was broke, unemployed, and drowning in debt. I started researching budgeting methods and came across cash stuffing. This was the start of an era for me. I started making my oven binders and envelopes while using this. system. To keep myself accountable, I started sharing my budgeting journey. online also. It literally took off with people asking where I got the items and could I teach them the method. I took my stimulus check that I received that year and invested it into a Shopify store and inventory and the rest. is history. I am self taught on most things and it has truly been a journey. I get to interact and empower thousands of women each year to take back control of their finances and it brings me true fulfillment. Financial literacy for women of color is my mission, and through Baddies and Budgets and my social platforms, it’s possible to share my message.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Everything was a struggle initially. When you are faced with hurdles in business, you have no choice but to learn it yourself, or pay someone to teach you. My funds were low so I spent hours and hours on Youtube, listening to podcasts, reading books, and watching content on things like, registering as business, sales tax, building a website, marketing, inventory management etc. Trial and error are my best friends. Sometimes I get things right on the first go, and other times I learn via bought experience. It has all formed me into the ever blooming entrepreneur I am now. Some days it feels like I jumped out of a plane and I’m forced to build the parachute on the way down. I’m always trying to learn. more, so that I can do more in my business.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?

The crisis has affected us all in different ways. How has it affected you and any important lessons or epiphanies you can share with us?
I started my business during COVID so it’s honestly all I know. COVID taught me the power of community and really listening to your audiences needs. We strive to always provide them value and products that add value to their lives. Outside of the financial issues that COVID caused, so many of us lost connection. People yearn for connection and feeling like they belong. We do our best to make our community feel welcomed, appreciated, and heard.
