Today we’d like to introduce you to Jason Griffin.
Jason, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Born and raised in Orange, Texas. I graduated from Lamar University with a degree in Industrial Electronics. While
in college, I began my first job as a radio announcer in my hometown. I quickly discovered a preference
for talking into microphones rather than repairing them. This led me to 17 years in the radio business as
an announcer, marketer, and event promoter including 11 years at KSBJ in Houston. I eventually left the radio business to start my own business in a different industry. During this time, I began moonlighting on weekends as a wedding and event DJ/MC. Classic Pro DJ is my full-time job with more than 1,500 weddings and hundreds of corporate events & parties under my belt.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The combination of my time in the radio industry and customer service work in restaurant management & sales were the perfect training grounds for what I do now.
As you know, we’re big fans of Classic Pro DJ. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
My company includes myself and four other experienced DJ/MCs. About 80% of our clients are weddings. The other 20% are corporate events, holiday celebrations, and school dances. A major reason why our calendar fills up fast is pricing. A standard 5-hour wedding with us as your MC, all music & microphones needed for both ceremony & reception, plus dance floor lighting is less than $1000. We put great emphasis on not just the obvious – the fun, music, & dancing – but on customer service and being terrific MCs. Our preparation for events (especially weddings) is very detail oriented. This makes the planning process easy for brides & grooms and creates good teamwork with other vendors. We also offer photo booths and various lighting options.
Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
One of the most important lessons learned is to always be flexible when unexpected moments arise and handle them with a smile.
