Today we’d like to introduce you to Jay Huerta.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Hi, I’m Jay. At the age of 14, I figured out I was intrigued in cutting hair. I would cut all of my friends’ hair any day of the week after school. What started as a part-time hobby I soon realized it was the start of my life as an entrepreneur. After high school, I went straight into barber college and graduated. Starting my career at such a young age I never fully realized the potential of where my career would take me from cutting professional athletes to making lifelong friends. 2018 was the year we launched Texas Barber Lounge that went from starting as a one-man operation to building a team. With the success of my barbering career, I’ve been privileged enough to expand my business portfolio in real estate and recently opening Greenhouse Smoke and Vapes which is also located in Grand Prairie.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
As an entrepreneur it’s never a smooth road there’s no guide to being successful in business. Learning how to adjust, adapt to ever-changing situations, and to keep moving forward towards your ultimate goal. One of the struggles is people only witness the success what they don’t see is the time and effort put in. Also realizing you sacrifice your time, your most valuable asset away from family and friends.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Texas Barber Lounge is a full-service Barber Shop we specialize in all styles and fades. We’re known for our inviting family environment, laid-back atmosphere, and exceptional customer service. We’re actually located in the hometown I grew up in Grand Prairie, TX. When opening my own place of business my focus was to bring elements to the barbershop industry I saw was lacking. The space I have created is my brand, a reflection of the dedication to mastering my craft, and pushing the industry forward from the stereotypical barbershops.
What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
My personal outlook on things are how can I get this done? What do I have to do to reach this goal? I’m very calculated and ambitious on my approach to things in my life and business. No matter how tough things can or will get I stay on course.
