Inspiring Conversations with Jennifer Escamilla of Sprinkalicous Cakes

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jennifer Escamilla.

Hi Jennifer, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Since I was a kid, I’ve always loved to bake. Didn’t hit me till after I was married and had kids that I could turn into a business. I’m completely self-taught and have trials and tribulations. It all started w my daughter’s birthday 5 years ago. I made her cake and just kept on making all my kid’s cakes from there on out. I started taking orders and charging just for supplies. I just wanted to get the practice in. Here I am 5 years later, booked about every week. I’ve built friendships with just about all my clients. Six kids.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It definitely hasn’t been smooth. Being self-taught made it so much harder. I didn’t have someone to teach me. It was all figured out myself. Which I did sometimes with tears and sweat lol. Cakes can be very tricky. Learning to get a moist cake, smooth buttercream, or even leveled cakes. 5 years later, and I’m still learning new things all the time.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Sprinkalicous is a cake & treat business. We specialize in cakes, buttercream or fondat. We also make treats such as cake pops, pretzels, etc. I think what’s set me apart from other cake artists is that I offer treats. A lot of people like to order and order from one business. Just makes things easier. I know most bakers don’t offer treats.
