Today we’d like to introduce you to Jennifer Mark.
Jennifer, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I started MARQ THE LABEL during the pandemic. At the time, I was experimenting with tapestry blankets and began turning them into wearable pieces. The ability to customize the blankets with faces of celebrities or loved ones was what quickly gained attention. I started creating pieces featuring celebrities and other iconic figures, and soon I was taking custom orders from NFL and NBA wives, girlfriends, and even a few players. TikTok also played a huge role in helping me gain traction!
As the brand grew, I knew I wanted to expand beyond tapestry pieces and create something bigger. That’s when THE EMBASSY was created. In September 2024, I launched our first collection with 4 jerseys, USA, Nigeria, Mexico and Jamaica. Each jersey represents a different country and the vision was to create something people could wear proudly to represent their country and embrace their culture.
The response has been incredible and far beyond anything I expected. But truthfully, I don’t take the credit. Everything I’ve built is because of God. I’ve just been following His lead, and I’m grateful for every step of the journey.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Definitely not a smooth road! Theres been a lot of ups and downs. In the beginning I was figuring everything out on my own, from designing to sourcing materials to fulfilling orders. There were times I didn’t have the money to produce pieces or I’d invest in something and it wouldn’t sell like I hoped.
I’ve also dealt with burnout and doubt especially when things felt slow or I wasn’t seeing the results I wanted. And because I do so much behind the scenes it can be overwhelming trying to balance everything. But those struggles taught me a lot and I’ve grown so much through them. I’ve learned to trust God more in the process, even when it’s uncomfortable.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
So my brand is made up of two parts, MARQ THE LABEL and THE EMBASSY. MARQ THE LABEL started it all with custom one of a kind pieces made from tapestry blankets. That’s what first got people’s attention especially the personalized stuff and pieces with celebrities.
THE EMBASSY is the newer side of the brand and it’s all about culture! We make jerseys that represent different countries. It is about giving people a way to show love for where theyre from or connect with cultures they admire. Every detail from the design to the packaging is intentional. I want people to feel proud when they wear it.
What sets us apart is the storytelling and meaning behind each piece. I’m building a community and creating things that actually mean something to people. That’s what I’m most proud of. I get lots of comments and messages of people thanking me for creating a jersey for their country and messages like, “ omg I’m so glad I found you, I’ve been looking for something like this for so long” that means everything to me.
I want readers to know that my brand is rooted in faith, community, culture, and purpose. Whether it’s through custom designs or THE EMBASSY jerseys, everything I do is meant to make people feel seen, connected and proud of who they are and where they come from.
Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
To be honest, I’ve never really had a mentor and I don’t feel like I necessarily need one. Most of what I’ve learned has been through experience, trial and error, reading books, or just doing a deep dive online when I need answers. I’ve always been pretty self taught and resourceful but I’m also blessed to have people around me who support and help in different ways.
When it comes to networking I’ve found that social media is powerful. It’s opened so many doors for me. I just try to connect with people genuinely. You never know where a simple connection might lead, so I always try to stay open minded.
