Today we’d like to introduce you to Jillian Pittman.
Hi Jillian, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
In December 2012, I fell on hard times and was looking for work when I came across a small plumbing company—one master plumber, working for himself. I stepped into the trade as a single mom with a one-year-old, determined to build stability and a future. I learned plumbing the hands-on way: in the field, on real service calls, solving problems for real people.
Over the next 12 years, plumbing taught me far more than technical skill. I learned how to stay calm when a customer is stressed, how to communicate clearly when it matters most, and how to take pride in work that’s safe, clean, and built to last. I also learned what many people never see behind the scenes—how much a service company depends on organization, repeatable processes, and leadership that supports the people doing the work.
Later in my career, I faced a pivotal decision: stay and step into a “part owner” role at the company I’d helped build, or leave and start over somewhere else—all while I was five months pregnant. I chose the ownership path because I believed in the work and wanted to grow something meaningful. But I eventually realized there were things happening that didn’t align with my values, and I made the difficult decision to remove myself from it.
I did that during COVID, while adjusting to life as a new mom to my second child, and I launched my own company with more grit than guidance. I didn’t have a blueprint for entrepreneurship—I had a deep understanding of the trade, a clear picture of what not to do, and a commitment to build something better. That’s why I founded JMP Plumbing Services: to raise the standard with high-quality craftsmanship, clear communication, and a culture that supports the people doing the work.
A few years into building JMP, I walked through a season of profound personal loss, including the loss of my fiancé and the teammate who served as my service manager. At the same time, the business was in a hard year financially, and the pressure felt heavy from every direction—at home and at work. It forced me to lead with more clarity, more structure, and more intention than ever before.
I focused on strengthening the foundation: tightening our systems, improving training, creating seamless processes, and doubling down on the customer experience that built our reputation in the first place. Today, JMP is a well-oiled machine with a strong team, dependable operations, and a loyal customer base. I’m proud to be a working Texas Master Plumber and a woman-owned business owner serving families and businesses across North Dallas and Collin County—and even prouder that we turned adversity into a stronger, more sustainable company my family can be proud of.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I’ve been turned away from projects because clients assumed a woman couldn’t handle “a man’s work.” I’ve even had someone ask if my boss “forgot to make his sandwich,” implying that must be why I was there. I learned early to answer bias with professionalism and results—because excellence changes minds faster than arguments.
Then I became the CEO, and the obstacles changed. The first three years in business were a crash course in entrepreneurship—cash flow, hiring, operations, systems, and leadership—all hitting at once. I didn’t have the luxury of learning slowly. I had to fix issues swiftly and permanently.
Seeing those challenges through is what built the company we have today: a strong team, streamlined processes, and a customer base that trusts us. Now we’re heading into year five more profitable than ever—and ready to grow from a place of stability, not survival.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about JMP Plumbing Services?
I’m the owner of JMP Plumbing Services, a family-run, woman-owned plumbing company based in McKinney, Texas, serving Collin County and North Dallas. We’re the preventative maintenance plumber—focused on permanent solutions, not temporary fixes. When something breaks, we don’t just patch the symptom; we diagnose the cause and help you protect your home long-term.
We’re known for being honest, dependable, local, and trustworthy. We’re never private-equity owned, and our name is tied to every job—so quality and communication matter. Whether it’s leak detection, drains and sewer issues, water heaters, or gas line work, our customers call us when they want it done right, explained clearly, and priced fairly.
What I’m most proud of is the reputation we’ve built: a loyal customer base that trusts us because we show up, tell the truth, and deliver lasting results.
We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
I don’t really credit luck for where I am today. What’s made the difference is adaptability—the ability to stay fluid, pivot fast, and keep making good decisions when circumstances change. In business, especially service work, you can’t control the economy, weather, staffing challenges, or unexpected setbacks—but you can control your response. I’ve learned to treat every obstacle as data: adjust the plan, tighten the systems, and keep moving forward. If anything, what people call “luck” is usually the result of consistent preparation—showing up, doing the right thing, learning quickly, and being willing to change course without losing your standards.
