Inspiring Conversations with Jordan Capo Graves of Capo Fine Diamonds and Jewelry

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jordan Capo Graves.

Hi Jordan, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Have you ever felt intimidated buying jewelry? I have. I remember walking into this gorgeous, upscale jewelry store and feeling so incredibly small. Whether it was from the employees who wouldn’t give you the time of day, or prices that seemed outrageously out of reach, it was the worst feeling in the world. Well, that didn’t sit well with me, so I set out to change that.

I started in jewelry at 18 as a way to pay my way through college. (Spoiler alert: That didn’t happen.) I was walking through the mall when I came upon a Gordon’s Jewelers. My Pepaw had worked for Zale’s for 25 years, and it just felt right. I got the job the same day, and the rest is history! But it became so much more than a job. It became a passion. I worked hard behind a jewelry counter for years, listening, learning, and gaining as much expertise as I possibly could. And 12 years later, it’s still my dream job.

I LOVE jewelry! But more than that, I love the people I get to meet because of this industry. So, when I founded Capo & Co., I vowed that my clients would never feel the way I had so many years ago. I want my clients to feel like they are talking to an old friend, not a stuffy jewelry consultant. I want to bring joy and fun back to buying jewelry! And that’s what I’m doing today.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Starting my own business was not easy. I traded 40 hours a week for 24/7, received animosity from colleagues who had once been friends, and had to learn how to be the CEO, janitor, marketing team, and salesperson all in one. But I wouldn’t trade this for the world. I get to connect with people on a super special level, provide heirlooms that will be cherished for generations, and be a part of love stories across the country. I don’t think I could ever do anything else. I love my job!

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Capo & Co. Fine Diamonds and Jewelry?
I said earlier that I want my clients to feel like they are talking to an old friend and not a stuffy jewelry consultant. I want my clients to feel super comfortable buying jewelry, and not only comfortable but educated too! That being said… Capo & Co. Fine Diamonds and Jewelry is a jewelry brand like no other.

My process is a one-of-a-kind experience, with prices that are attainable by any budget! I run my business like the ultimate concierge jewelry service. By working directly with me, my clients get to create jewelry specially tailored to their wants and wishes. From engagement rings to tennis bracelets, to gemstone jewelry, and everything else in between, I can do it all! But my bread and butter is custom engagement.

I also specialize in heirloom reworks, taking family heirloom jewelry and turning it into something totally new! Have grandma’s diamond brooch? Your mama’s wedding ring? We can take those sentimental pieces and give them new life for the loved ones who have inherited them.

But you don’t have to want custom to shop with me! I have a huge online inventory, as well as a large network of wholesalers to find my clients exactly what they’re looking for if they aren’t looking for something totally custom.

At the end of the day, I just want my clients to be happy and to leave my shop with a piece of jewelry that they will cherish for years to come. I love jewelry and I love people. And it is my greatest joy in life to watch somebody wear the jewelry they have purchased from me.

We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up.
I think my favorite childhood memory would be the times I spent with my grandma and pepaw. Walking their huge garden picking tomatoes and purple hull peas, swinging on the front porch, walking into the kitchen early in the morning to the smell of bacon, and hearing Pepaw say, “Hey baby! You hungry?” He was always an early riser and always starving first thing in the morning. Times were simple, and it was the greatest of happiness.
