Today we’d like to introduce you to Jorge A Monsivais.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Hello my name is Jorge A Monsivais, I’m merry to Juanis Monsivais we have four kids
Marleen, Stephanie, Daniel and Emanuel Monsivais.
I (we my wife and I ) came to this country back in November 2002 I didn’t know how to speak English but I wanted to be able to communicate with people, I wanted to be able to order my own food at least, so I decided to start taking English classes, it was hard because I had to work and go to school at night after work and we had a little girl.
Thank God my wife was always there she didn’t care staying home while I was going to school to learn the language she always sacrificed herself so I can learn and help provide for our family she is my best friend and she always believed in me, after a long time I was able to get my GED and I wanted to continue studying but things got harder and family got bigger so I couldn’t go to college.
I started my business offering lawn service back in 2010-2011, I started mowing yards with a push mowers I remember my wife was my helper on a busy days, we had a dream and she always told me that I can do wherever I want when I was dreaming ridding mowers to make the job easier and to mow bigger yards. She always said I will be here with you and I will help you any way I can you can do it you’re a hard worker, smart and God will provide. I was working for an Oil Company Monday through Friday and I was mowing yards after work and on the weekends. When my boss found it out he offered me to starting to mow his yard, he bought me my first mower Zero Turn 52 in. He was my big inspiration, He taught me many things his name was Joe Smith unfortunately he left too soon.
My dream was to have my own company and work for myself so I never gave up on anything I always work hard and I was trying to educate myself on the landscape industry, I never got scared of any jobs if I don’t know how to do it I was always finding someone who can do it and I was always around watching and learning from them I might pay them to do the job two or three times but I was there with them learning and paying attention on every little things, that’s how I learned a lot and also I was watching videos and attending some seminars about different things.
As I mentioned earlier I was only offering
Having a business it’s not easy especially because unfortunately nobody wants to teach you or share anything about it, I was asking questions and no one was telling me anything about how to charge jobs or where to get more business and things like that.
I learned how to do more things and offered more services after my first year in business, we started to offering services such as;
Final grading new construction
Grass/Sod
Landscape
Fences
Irrigation
Tree service
Drains
Retaining Walls
And much more….
I’m always been a God believer I have faith in God and I believe that he has always guided me to make good decisions.
I believe that the best way to advertise your business is your work, performing a good service/work, be honest, don’t make a promise that you can complete, don’t lie to your customers, try not to overcharge jobs, do the best you can on every job, big or small always do the best you can, that’s what I try to do every day.
Also spend enough time training your employees, take care of them and find ways to create good environment around or between them, talk to them, listen to them be open to any suggestions be a leader.
Establish a good relationship with your customers, try to adapt to their needs and budgets but don’t ever do a cheap or pour work if you ever make a mistake and charge less than what you are going to spend to complete your project, remember we are human and we’re going to make mistakes that’s why I don’t recommend to estimate jobs over some pictures or descriptions try to put a visit or two to every job before you estimate it.
This is a little bit about my business and I, I have a lot more to say but I hope this is enough for you to consider interviewing me.
Thank you for the opportunity.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has been hard to stay in business but we need to keep learning and offering the best service possible to every customer.
The biggest struggle back when I started my business was that, no one knew me and what I was offering it was very hard to earn thrust.
After few months and knocking thousands of doors asking for jobs we started to do better and people started to talk about me and recommended me to friends and family.
I think one of the biggest challenges was the ability to communicate with people and offer them your services to gain thrust, after that I don’t have any problem with it because, I know we are going to do the best we can to complete your project and the quality of our work will be the best we can do.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
My business it’s a small Landscape company that offers

Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
I worked for an oil company before I came to this industry.
I met a person, the owner who play a big role on everything that I do and offer now, his name was Joe A Smith he taught me a lot of things and he always encouraged me to do better and learn new things and way to be better on everything. He help me to buy the first mower and my first trailer he had lots of faith in myself. He was like a father for me I miss him, he passed in 2016 with ALS (papa Joe)
Also a lot of the credit is for my employees they have been loyal and hard worker since they came on board with my company and they always do their best to meet or exceed expectations and make sure ALL jobs are done correctly
