Inspiring Conversations with Josh Roman of American AF Dumpsters

Today we’d like to introduce you to Josh Roman

Hi Josh, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Entrepreneurship runs in my blood. I started my first business at 18, and I’ve never looked back. Growing up, I watched my parents build and run their own janitorial supply and carpet cleaning company for over 30 years, so entrepreneurship was always second nature.

One of my biggest ventures was a luxury transportation business, Heaven On Wheels Limousines, which my family and I successfully operated for over 16 years. When COVID hit, the luxury transportation industry came to an abrupt halt, forcing me to quickly pivot. I recognized an opportunity in the waste management and dumpster rental industry—something completely different, yet essential. That’s when I founded American AF Dumpsters here in Dallas, Texas.

I quickly realized that this was an underserved industry, ripe for disruption and growth. I built the business by leveraging my passion for branding, marketing, and customer service, eventually we will be expanding it nationally through franchising. Soon after, I launched American AF Trailers, distributing high-quality Cam-Concept hooklift trailers throughout the United States.

Today, I also run a thriving YouTube channel where I teach over 17,000 subscribers how to start, scale, and succeed in their own dumpster rental businesses. I’m proud of creating businesses that not only make money but also impact other entrepreneurs positively—because at the end of the day, entrepreneurship is about creating opportunities, building something meaningful, and giving back along the way.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
No, definitely not smooth—but I wouldn’t have it any other way. Entrepreneurship always comes with challenges. One of my toughest moments was during COVID, when the luxury transportation business I’d built and run for over 16 years suddenly stopped overnight. I had employees and family counting on me, and the uncertainty was intense. I had to adapt quickly, pivoting completely from luxury transportation to the dumpster rental and waste industry—something I knew little about at the time.

The transition was challenging. I had to learn a new business model, understand the waste industry from the ground up, and essentially start over. There were logistical hurdles, financial pressures, and the fear of failure constantly in the background. But perseverance, adaptability, and staying disciplined financially allowed me to overcome these obstacles.

Looking back, those struggles taught me invaluable lessons about resilience, humility, and the importance of being able to pivot without hesitation. Challenges are inevitable, but how you handle them defines your long-term success.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?

We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
My favorite childhood memory was actually something I used to dread as a kid. Every weekend, my mom and dad would take me along as they cleaned Old Country Buffet restaurants and bowling alleys. At the time, I absolutely hated it—staying up late, working hard, and cleaning floors wasn’t how I wanted to spend my weekends. But looking back now, I realize those moments had an incredible impact on shaping who I am today.

Watching my parents work tirelessly taught me firsthand the value of honest, hard work, dedication, and sacrifice. It showed me that success requires doing things you don’t necessarily want to do at the moment, and it instilled discipline and resilience in me from an early age. Today, I’m deeply grateful for those early mornings, because they built the foundation of my work ethic and my commitment to entrepreneurship. Those tough weekends made me appreciate the grind—it’s a big part of why I’ve been able to build and sustain successful businesses for over two decades.
