Inspiring Conversations with Kaity Stone of Open-Minded Counseling

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kaity Stone.

Kaity Stone

Hi Kaity, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I founded Open-Minded Counseling to build a space where people felt safe exploring healing, mindfulness, and what it means to live as their most authentic self. My path in Fort Worth began in community work, walking alongside unhoused families and those in transition, and eventually brought me into the schools, where I spent nearly a decade supporting students, families, and staff through stress, trauma, and burnout.

These experiences taught me the importance of accessible, holistic care that honors both the mind, body, and spirit. As a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), AcuDetox Specialist (ADS), and Registered Trainer with 5NP Texas, I now blend counseling, training, and creative outreach.

Through Open-Minded Counseling, I maintain a private counseling practice and lead 5NP AcuDetox trainings for licensed professionals. I also host mindfulness and wellness workshops and collaborate on community projects that bring calm and connection to spaces that need it most. My work continues to center on helping people return to balance, authenticity, and care for themselves and others.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The path hasn’t always been clear, but every step has taught me something valuable. Balancing the many roles of a small business owner, therapist, and trainer, while nurturing life beyond work, takes constant and consistent effort. Finding sustainable funding to grow programs and expand community outreach has also been a challenge, but each hurdle has brought important lessons.

Over the past two and a half years, I’ve experienced tremendous growth, both personally and professionally. The work of a social worker and therapist is never truly done. There’s always more to give, more to learn, and more room to grow. I’m continually learning to stretch myself while also making time to slow down, reconnect with nature, and be present with the people who I care deeply about. Finding balance and living a life of service is a lifelong journey, and it continues to bring me deep joy, gratitude, and meaning each day.

We’ve been impressed with Open-Minded Counseling, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
At Open-Minded Counseling, we are dedicated to creating affirming, inclusive spaces where people can explore healing, mindfulness, and connection. In my private practice, I work with adults and teens through a trauma-informed, strengths-based approach that integrates mindfulness, body awareness, and self-compassion. While we specialize in supporting the LGBTQIA+ community, we welcome individuals of all backgrounds and identities. My goal is to help clients regulate, reconnect, and rediscover their sense of balance and authenticity in daily life.

Beyond the therapy room, much of my work focuses on teaching, training, and community outreach. As a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, AcuDetox Specialist, and Registered Trainer with 5NP Texas, I lead 5NP AcuDetox training sessions for licensed professionals across Texas. These immersive, hands-on experiences equip practitioners to safely and ethically integrate 5NP AcuDetox into their work and their communities. 5NP (5 -Needle Protcol) AcuDetox is a five-point ear acupuncture protocol for mental health and wellness that supports emotional regulation, stress reduction, and overall balance.

I also regularly present and facilitate workshops on mindfulness, self-care, and burnout prevention for clinicians, educators, and community members. These experiences blend research, reflection, and creativity to help participants reconnect with calm, clarity, and care.

What sets Open-Minded Counseling apart is our commitment to bridging clinical care and community wellness. Every offering, whether a therapy session, professional training, or public workshop, is rooted in compassion, inclusion, and authenticity. I’m passionate about expanding access to 5NP AcuDetox and supporting more mental health and healthcare professionals in becoming trained practitioners. I’m also available to bring AcuDetox and mindfulness experiences to groups and organizations across DFW and the state, continuing to grow our collective reach for healing and connection.

We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
For me, success is not about titles or accolades, it is about the small moments that make a day meaningful. It is laying down at night knowing I did the best I could with my time, energy, and resources. It is helping others, seeing people experience relief, healing, joy, and those quiet personal breakthroughs that remind them of their own strength.

Success is also found in the small, grounding moments, standing in the sunshine, sharing a genuine hug, laughing until I’m out of breath, or realizing I learned something new that stretched me as a person and a professional. It is being trusted by others and recognized as someone who shows up, works hard, and cares deeply.

At the end of the day, success is living with purpose, presence, and integrity, doing work that feels meaningful, and helping others find balance and healing along the way.
