Today, we’d like to introduce you to Karla Romero.

Karla Romero

Hi Karla, We’re so excited to have you on the platform. Before we get into questions about your work life, maybe you can update our readers on your story and how you got to where you are today.
First off, I want to thank you for this opportunity. I have always wanted to be in the beauty industry. It just never occurred that I would end up a lash artist.

A few years ago, I taught myself why not start lashing as a side hustle. I saved up some money, took a leap of faith, and enrolled in a lash academy. Once I graduated from lash school, I took in a few clients, but eventually, I ended up quitting lashing and decided to find myself a job. It wasn’t until I had to go on maternity leave that my job at the time was not going to pay me while I was out on maternity leave.

At that point, I decided to take my state board exams and obtain my license. Fast forward, I started lashing again a couple of weeks after I had my baby and realized my income was more than my actual job; therefore, I decided to quit my 9-7 and become a full-time lash artist. Trust me, it wasn’t an easy decision. After contemplating for weeks and speaking to my husband, I decided to go for it. What was the worst that could happen?

I went on to become a full-time lash artist, growing my clientele and leasing a chair from a studio. Eventually, I felt like I had taken a step back because I had to go back to working from home. Thankfully, my clients continued to support me. It has definitely been a roller coaster with a lot of ups and downs. It has not always been sunshine and rainbows. It definitely takes a lot of hard work and dedication.

I’ve had days I had to lash as early as 5 am and days I wouldn’t be home till 10 pm or later. Personally, I would do it all over again! Now, I am still lashing, but I also own a lash academy.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
No, it has not been a smooth road. When you are a beginner, you have a lot of struggles, and you have to be ready to phase them and not let them bring you down. I had my struggles; as a beginner, it was pretty challenging when it came to finding and keeping clientele.

I remember taking the step and leasing a chair, and I was making just enough to cover for renting, sometimes even going days with no clients. The amount of times I wanted to quit and go back to my old job, I used to think at least the money was secure there, you know. As a lash artist, if you don’t have clients, you don’t have a check!

I appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Romero Beauty Studio?
I am a lash artist! I have been lashing for four years now. I specialize in Eyelash Extensions. My favorite sets to do are Wispy and Volume Sets. Not only do we offer lash extensions, but I also offer lash lifts and brow laminations. On top of that I also have my own luxury lash supply line.

I love to be able to enhance the beauty of women. Lash extensions are definitely a life-changer! Imagine waking up and knowing you don’t have to apply makeup to make you feel pretty! Yes, that’s right! The lash extension can make that much of a difference. You don’t have to worry about spending an extra 10 minutes trying to apply falsies or having to deal with them unsticking during the day. My goal is to give my clients the best experience I can.

I want them to come into my studio and feel safe and comfortable to enjoy their me time and relax. I love meeting new faces and getting to know a little about every client that walks through my doors. I love seeing my clients achieve their own milestones and being able to celebrate with them. All my clients hold a special place in my heart, and I am super thankful for each and every one of them. My doors are always open to new clients.

Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
I do have some exciting plans in mind, for my lash studio and my lash academy. I hope to be able to make those a reality pretty soon! Stay tuned!
