Today we’d like to introduce you to Lamonte Harris.
Hi Lamonte, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Well first thank you for your time and this opportunity. It honestly all started with my nephew. He was a highly sought after player, being the QB at Long Beach Poly (Now QB at Colorado State University). As we all know that are familiar with the NIL space, it started in California with kids being able to be paid while in high school. As my sister started getting tons of inquiries about Darius, she turned to my brother and I tell assist. One thing led to another and through just looking to protect my family, I grew love for the sports business. That inevitably turned into Prominent Sports and Entertainment.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The road has never been smooth. Became a Sports Agent when NIL first started in 2021. There was absolutely 0 resources to lean on or people to ask questions. I watched the movie m, Jerry Maguire and the TV show Ballerz to gain understanding of the sports agent role. Watching how they speak with their clients, the adversity, that’s how I got my start. Just being honest. Just doing it, self teaching, and love for my family is how I got my start.
We’ve been impressed with Prominent Sports & Entertainment , but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Prominent SE is a full service, athlete and talent representation firm. We handle everything from contract negotiations for a client’s salary to endorsement deals and collaborations with brands. Marketing deals have been what we specialized in, but as the business evolved, so did our business structure.
The thing that I am most proud of is how I have been able to turn an idea, into my reality and build a “family business”. My older brother, my wife and I have played all the key parts to make Prominent SE what it is today.
The consistency and the quality of our work is what helps us stand out. I remember there were all kind of people taking jumping in the sports business and now, most are nowhere to be found. I stayed the course and now we are starting to reap the benefits from opportunities to pivot and work with pro athletes to now taking on the title of a WNBA agent, it is all a testament to consistency and staying on my path.
Risk taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
I take risks daily. You have to in order to to reach your goals or even just to advance in whatever business you are in. Pitching to brands is a risk in itself because not everyone is going to see your vision but it’s not about the moment you get turned down, it’s what do you do after? How do you react to being told no?
I’ll always say let the “no” be the fuel to keep going, then when somebody tells you “yes” you overachieve, over perform. In return people will be grateful that they took a chance on you.
