Inspiring Conversations with Lauren Shamblin of Frilly Boutique

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lauren Shamblin.

Hi Lauren, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I always had a dream of opening my own store someday and it was so much fun talking to my mom about it as I grew up, but I never REALLY thought I’d be here.

Over the past 5 years, I’ve been involved in the “boutique world” as most would call it. From marketing and modeling to running wholesale sides of businesses – I’ve learned so much but it was always a business dream of someone else. People would ask me if I would open my own and I always said no, because it was a pretty scary thing to consider. In 2020, I mentioned it to my boyfriend, Jake a few times that someday I’d like to open a boutique and one day, he finally said, why not now? So the seed was planted and I started trying to figure out what I’d need to do to accomplish opening an online store and even harder, what would I call it?

I wanted my name to be simple but truly something that was me – Frilly was born and I couldn’t love the name more. Girly, fun and FRILLY and that’s exactly what I built my brand around.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The road hasn’t been smooth by any means. Frilly isn’t my only job, but I handle every aspect of my business. From buying, building products, photography, social media – the list goes on. I balance it all, somehow with my other jobs and I wouldn’t trade this everyday chaos for the world. Frilly is my dream come true, and maybe someday it will be my only job and I can look back and remember how hard it was to get there but for now, I just love that I have this opportunity.

Another struggle I’ve experienced is what every small business in a pandemic has – highs and lows of retail and even being able to get my product in to sell. When I get frustrated with the situation I always remind myself that this isn’t forever – it’s just a temporary problem.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Frilly Boutique?
Frilly Boutique is an online boutique that sells women’s clothing, shoes and accessories and HAPPY ones at that! When buying for my store my number one thing is to choose pieces that are bright, happy and something that will make you feel so good when you put it on! Another thing that I try to cover is I carry sizes X-Small – 3X because everyone should feel cute in their clothing no matter the size!

From Tops and Dresses to Sparkly shoes, Drinkware and gifts, I try to have a wide selection of everything a girl could need! Someday, I’d love to have a storefront but for now, I’m online only but I do offer fast, free shipping.

Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
Knowing my shoppers love what they purchase from my store makes me incredibly happy. Getting to know my community of women and lifting them up is so special to me and it all starts with a purchase – isn’t that fun?
