Today we’d like to introduce you to Lorena Olvera.
Hi Lorena, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My name is Lorena Olvera. I’m a cosmetologist and Barber Teacher of Olvera Cosmetology & Barber Academy in Farmersville Tx.
I want to talk a little about me;
I remember when I was little it was really impressive how people change just by doing a hair cut, make up and hair styles. I knew since then that in the future I want to become a cosmetologist .
At 18 years old I had my first born and I have to leave my dreams on the side to take care of my family.
At 33 years old I started my dreams. I went to college classes to become a cosmetologist teacher. After I Graduated I started my Barber career to become a Barber Teacher.
I wanted to start teaching High School Students but at the same time I knew there were a lot of people just like me that left their dreams to take care of something else. In 2023 I decided to open Olvera Cosmetology & Barber Academy to people 15+ offering services of Cosmetology, Esthetician, Manicurist, Eye lash Extensions , Barber and Cosmo-Barber Crossover with flexible hours. It has been a challenge but it also has been the best decision I have made, especially every time when I see my students graduate from my academy I’m so proud of them. become a cosmetology & barber instructor you don’t just pass on technical knowledge you also become a mentor and role model influencing students work habits attitudes and understanding of the industry. The role of an instructor can also deepen your expertise.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
one of my obstacles other than economy was the distance of my cosmetology college and Barber School.
Challenges managing diverse student skill levels keeping up with rapid industry changes and the administrative burden of state regulations and curriculum updates.
