Inspiring Conversations with Marie Castevet of Tarot by Marie

Today we’d like to introduce you to Marie Castevet.

Marie Castevet

Hi Marie, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
During my teenage years in central Florida, I developed an interest in tarot reading and the occult. My journey into tarot reading began with readings for friends and was further developed when I became interested in energy work while attending a festival in Granbury, Texas. It was during this time that I had the pleasure of meeting Helena from Hemlock Haus, who recognized and encouraged my abilities. Although we lost touch for some time, our paths crossed once again when I began offering professional readings. This reunion solidified my belief in my talent and abilities. Drawing inspiration from the world around me, I find solace in turning darkness into light, finding beauty in the most turbulent of situations. As a chronically ill and disabled practitioner, I have channeled my personal struggles into my work, allowing me to approach each reading with unparalleled empathy and understanding. Through my unique perspective, I offer a guiding hand to those in need, helping them navigate their own hardships and challenges.

We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I believe that being drawn to the occult and interests outside of what is considered normal at a young age can make it difficult for others to relate to you, as there is still a lot of fear surrounding tarot and witchcraft. Additionally, being chronically ill and disabled has also had an interesting impact on my craft. Because of this, I do not align myself with the “high vibrational” crowd. I have spent a long time questioning myself, as there are days when I struggle to accept my body or have low energy levels that keep me away from my altar and tools. In those moments, I have learned to speak to myself with the same empathy that I would show others facing similar challenges. With that comes a deeper understanding that everyone’s practice is unique to them and everyone’s connection is different. Ultimately, I approach myself with empathy and feel stronger for acknowledging my difficulties in an authentic manner that allows me to cultivate that deeper connection with those I read for.

We’ve been impressed with Tarot by Marie, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I have been reading tarot intuitively for the past twenty years. Each spread I create is customized for the client, approaching each reading as if we are delving into a novel together, with each card representing a chapter to be explored. I involve the client by allowing them to attune with my deck prior to the reading. Currently, I offer online distance readings and read several times a month at Hemlock Haus in Fort Worth.

What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
I have learned many lessons during my time as reader. Firstly, be aware and empathetic towards your communities. Kindness does not always have to be grandiose; simple actions can be a sign of true magic in the world. Sometimes, the greatest gift you can give someone is validation and encouragement that they are on the right path. Those have been the most special readings that I have had the honor to do. Sharing a moment of emotion can also be one of the most rewarding experiences someone can have.
