Today we’d like to introduce you to Mason Marquis.
Hi Mason, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Spray Tex Painting began nearly ten years ago in a college dorm room. At the time, it was a simple idea shared by a couple of kids who wanted to learn, grow, and experience business beyond the classroom.
We started with virtually no capital, just curiosity, grit, and a desire to build something meaningful. Over time, that small idea grew into what is now the largest residential repaint company in our market. The journey was far from easy. It asked everything of us and then some. I am deeply grateful for the coaches, mentors, and guides who walked alongside me and helped shape not only the business, but the person and leader I was becoming.
What began as a way to make money and create freedom slowly revealed itself as something much deeper. Spray Tex became my life’s work and my calling. Today, that mission is alive in every employee and present in every interaction we have with our clients.
We are a place to grow, to develop, and to evolve.
At our core, Spray Tex is a people focused organization that brings love and humanity into business. We believe that when people feel safe, supported, and seen, they do their best work. We invest thousands of dollars each year into coaching, training, and personal development because our people matter deeply to us.
Our leadership philosophy is rooted in what we call conscious or trauma-informed leadership. We focus on the whole human being, honoring emotional well being and mental health as essential, not optional. We believe that more connected, compassionate, and grounded people listen better, care more deeply for clients, and create a ripple of positive impact that extends far beyond the workplace.
This is what Spray Tex is all about. A company built on growth, love, and the belief that business can be a force for healing, connection, and meaningful change.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
We experienced many challenges along the way, from failed projects to difficult hiring decisions and learning how to find our footing in the business world. We struggled often, and many of the lessons that shaped us were learned the hard way.
In the early years, especially as a new business with no capital, Spray Tex was how we fed our families. There were times when things were incredibly tight. Every single project felt make or break, determining whether we could meet payroll or continue pursuing the dream we had committed ourselves to.
One moment in particular has stayed with me. We had a project that didn’t go as it should have, and we made the decision to completely redo the work in order to do right by the client. Paying to fix that project drained the last of the money in our business bank account. To keep the company moving forward, I had to personally withdraw money from my own checking account to support the business.
It was humbling in a way that’s hard to describe. But it also clarified something that has guided us ever since. No matter how difficult things became, no matter how much it cost or how much it hurt, we committed to always doing the right thing. To lead with generosity. To act with compassion. To make things whole for our clients, even when it required sacrifice.
Those moments shaped the culture and values of Spray Tex far more than any success ever could. They taught us who we wanted to be, not just as a company, but as people.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Spray Tex Painting is a residential repaint company that specializes in high quality interior and exterior painting for homeowners who care deeply about their spaces and the people working in them. We are known not only for the craftsmanship we deliver, but for the experience we create from the first conversation to the final walkthrough.
What truly sets us apart is our people. Spray Tex is a people first organization built on the belief that when you take exceptional care of your team, they take exceptional care of your clients. We invest heavily in coaching, training, and personal development, and we lead through a conscious, trauma informed approach that prioritizes emotional well being, accountability, and human connection.
Brand wise, I am most proud of the culture we have built. We have created a place where people feel safe to grow, learn from mistakes, and become better versions of themselves both professionally and personally. That culture shows up in how we communicate, how we navigate challenges, and how we care for our clients when things do not go as planned.
Our services go beyond paint. We help homeowners transform their spaces in a way that feels thoughtful, respectful, and deeply personal. We are known for clear communication, integrity, and a commitment to making things right no matter the cost. Our goal is not just to complete a project, but to build trust and long term relationships with the people we serve.
What I want readers to know most about Spray Tex is that we believe business can be done differently. That it can be rooted in love, responsibility, and genuine care for people. We see our work as an opportunity to positively impact homes, families, and communities, and we take that responsibility seriously every single day.
Spray Tex is not just a painting company. It is a place where people grow, where clients are truly cared for, and where meaningful work is done with heart and intention.
Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
Luck has absolutely played a role in our journey. Timing mattered. We started Spray Tex in 2016, which was a strong period for growth in North Texas, especially in residential building and home improvement. That early momentum helped create opportunities we could lean into. Later, after the initial shock of the pandemic, we experienced another unexpected surge as people began reinvesting in their homes during COVID.
That said, I believe luck only opens the door. What you do once it opens is what truly matters. We worked incredibly hard to meet those moments with preparation, integrity, and care for our clients and our people.
I also consider myself very lucky in a deeper sense. Some of the most impactful mentors and coaches entered my life at exactly the right times. Their guidance, perspective, and belief in me helped shape both the business and the leader I was becoming. I don’t take that lightly. Their support allowed me to grow through challenges rather than be defined by them.
So yes, luck played a part, but it was paired with perseverance, values, and a commitment to doing the right thing even when it was hard. That combination is what ultimately allowed Spray Tex to grow into what it is today.
