Inspiring Conversations with Megan Beltran of Be Home Designs

Today we’d like to introduce you to Megan Beltran.

Hi Megan, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself
Truly thinking about it… My story with Interior Design started at a very young age. I would re-decorate my room again and again, shift furniture around, watch countless Home Tour videos (who remembers MTV Cribs? lol), and submersing myself into other people’s homes and styles. I remember being in the backseat of my parent’s car, driving through different neighborhoods and looking into people’s windows (not in a creepy way at all lol) and see their decor and the different feeling you get, they were all unique…but they all felt like a home. Flash forward, my husband and I bought our first house in 2019 and the passion was ignited once again. I was working a 9-5 job at an insurance company. I had been there for almost 10 years, but I just couldn’t see myself there forever. I started sharing my home on Instagram, my affordable finds and the comments and questions started flooding in from friends and family. “Love your style!”, “Where did you buy that?” or “Can you help me find something?”… I was surprised that people wanted my advice and then the idea struck me…and Be Home Designs was born. I launched in 2021. I wanted to bring Interior Design services for the budget-conscious person. I wanted to make my services affordable and attainable for the everyday homeowner, renter, or small business owner. Now, I am proud to say I have helped hundreds of clients of all kind to make their spaces feel like home. My company is called Be Home Designs because my goal is to make all my clients feel happy to “Be Home”.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It most definitely has not been smooth. I started this business with no prior experience or education in interior design or owning a small business. I took some courses online, read some books, and hit the ground running. My first few clients were family and friends. I was still working a 9-5 job, so I would take clients after work and on the weekends. I was working on projects late into the night. It was a lot… I couldn’t just quit my job, I had bills to pay, and I thought my business was more of a side passion project. But little by little my clients & following started growing. I worked hard to create content and show up every day. I reached a point where I had to make a choice. Ironically, I was promoted at my insurance job, and I was making more money than I ever had been, but it was more stressful, and I felt a lot of pressure. What do I do? I didn’t hate my job, but I also truly LOVED interior design and I couldn’t juggle them both… 6 months after launching Be Home Designs, I was able to quit my 9-5 job and work on my business full time! It was both exciting and terrifying. I started getting bigger projects and clients. I’m still a very small team. Full-Service projects require personal shopping in-store, making online purchases, track deliveries, and much more. The day of project installs I am hauling furniture and decor in the back of my SUV and my handyman/installer is my husband lol! He has been the best supportive husband and team member. We can only take on so many projects a month, so my availability is limited. I hope to grow my team in the future, but for now, we make it work and my clients are the best! I’ve learned a lot this past year, some clients/projects were more demanding than others, but I took on the challenges and have been able to do things I never thought possible.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
I offer Affordable Interior Design Services and that truly sets me apart from other Designers who charge way more. I wanted to make having an Interior Designer more attainable for everyone! I don’t set budget minimums for your spaces. It shouldn’t have to cost a lot to make your home a place you love! Whether you have $100 or $1,000 to spend, I can make it happen. These past few years we’ve all had to spend a little more time at home or maybe you work from home now. It’s so important to make your spaces feel like you, that they bring you happiness, motivation, or relaxation. I am so proud that I have been able to help so many clients who have told me that my designs have helped them feel more joy in their lives. We could be going through so much anxiety, depression, or stress from work/family/other problems, but when you step into your home…you can forget about it by creating relaxing and cozy spaces. Lighting, textures, and colors all contribute to that, so it’s my goal to help you find that. We hop on a virtual/video call and look at your spaces, talk about your style, goals, and budget. In my Virtual Consultation + Design package, I create custom Mood Boards, source all the furniture and decor, and I then take a photo of your space and sketch a design with all the new pieces so you can get a visual guide and styling placement ideas. You have all the tools you need to shop and put the spaces together. I also offer a Full-Service package that allows me to provide more hands-on assistance. I design, shop, and style your space from start to finish! Again, all of this is done on your budget and time, because beautiful spaces take time.

Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
I am terribly shy and overthink everything! Each time I am waiting on my new client to hop on that Zoom call, I am sooo nervous! I know that they booked with me for a reason, that they love my work…but will they love ME? lol, I always start the call off by saying: “Thank you SO MUCH for booking with me and letting me design your space!” …ME. ME?? As if I am still trying to make sure they want MY advice lol. I know that I don’t have all the qualifications or licenses, but I have the experience and the LOVE for what I do. Every client matters SO MUCH to me. I do my best to give them a design that matches their style and needs. Right before I hit send on that email with their designs, there I go again overthinking and saying: “Will they love it? Hate it? OH gosh!… Okay, hit SEND…” Then there’s me waiting on their reply…and almost always they say they LOVE IT! I always get such joy in my heart knowing that I helped another person make their spaces beautiful. I am learning more to be confident in myself and with my work. I have a lot of happy clients and projects out there now. It’s never lost on me that I have MY designs in different homes all over DFW… Someone right now is working in their home office that I designed or eating dinner with friends in their dining room I helped style or relaxing on their new comfy sectional sofa that I sourced watching a movie with their family. It makes me teary-eyed knowing I had a hand in making that possible for them. That I get to design spaces that will not just be filled with pretty things, but also beautiful memories.
