Today we’d like to introduce you to Melody Yanez.
Hi Melody, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
My journey into skincare wasn’t something I planned early on—it found me later in life. What started as a curiosity quickly turned into a passion when I realized how powerful skincare can be, not just physically, but emotionally. I fell in love with the confidence shift I saw in clients when they looked in the mirror and truly felt good about themselves.
In 2018, I opened Y Not Beauty Bar in a single suite with a big vision and a simple question: why not create a space where beauty, wellness, and community come together? Over time, that vision grew into a full-service spa, expanding into multiple suites and welcoming a team of talented women building their own businesses alongside me. Together, we created a space rooted in support, education, and self-care—not just services.
In August 2024, everything changed when a fire completely destroyed our location. It was a devastating moment, but also a defining one. I was forced to pause, reflect, and reconnect with my purpose. Through faith, resilience, and the unwavering support of my community, I knew this wasn’t the end—it was a reset.
Today, Y Not Beauty Bar is rebuilding stronger than ever. We’re continuing to grow, reimagine our space, and elevate our services, while staying true to the heart of why I started: helping people feel confident, cared for, and seen. My journey has taught me that beauty isn’t just about skin—it’s about strength, perseverance, and showing up for yourself even after life tests you.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Not at all—it definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. Like many small business owners, I’ve faced challenges behind the scenes that people don’t always see. In the early days, it was balancing finances, wearing every hat, and learning through trial and error while still trying to show up fully for my clients. There were moments of self-doubt, growing pains, and tough decisions that came with expanding the business and leading a team.
One of the biggest challenges came in August 2024, when a fire completely destroyed our spa. Losing everything overnight was heartbreaking and overwhelming. Beyond the physical loss, it tested me emotionally, spiritually, and as a business owner. I had to slow down, reassess, and rebuild from the ground up—while still holding onto my vision.
That experience taught me the importance of preparation, faith, and community. It reminded me that setbacks don’t define you—how you respond to them does. Every challenge along the way has shaped me into a stronger leader and reaffirmed why I do what I do. The road hasn’t been easy, but it’s been meaningful, and I wouldn’t change the journey because it led me here.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Y Not Beauty is a full-service wellness spa rooted in results, education, and genuine connection. We specialize in customized skincare treatments, advanced facial services, and holistic self-care experiences designed to support both the skin and the person. Our offerings continue to expand, now including full-body waxing, medical nail services, lash services, massage therapy, and permanent makeup—allowing us to truly be a one-stop destination for beauty and wellness.
What sets us apart is our intentional approach. We don’t just perform services—we educate. Every client experience is centered around understanding your skin, your goals, and your lifestyle. We believe informed clients achieve the best results, which is why education and personalization are at the core of everything we do. Beyond the treatment room, we also host community events, self-care gatherings, and collaborative pop-ups that create meaningful connections and lasting relationships.
Brand-wise, what I’m most proud of is the culture we’ve built. Y Not Beauty is not only a space for clients to invest in themselves, but also a supportive environment for professionals to grow and thrive. Even after experiencing significant adversity, including the loss of our previous location, our brand remained strong because it’s built on trust, resilience, and community.
I want readers to know that Y Not Beauty is more than a spa—it’s a place where self-care is intentional, confidence is cultivated, and everyone is welcomed exactly as they are. Our mission is to help people feel seen, supported, and confident in their skin, and that purpose guides every service, experience, and connection we create.
What makes you happy?
What truly makes me happy is seeing people feel confident and cared for. There’s something incredibly fulfilling about watching a client look in the mirror and smile, knowing they feel good in their own skin. Those moments remind me why I chose this path.
I’m also deeply fulfilled by building community—creating a space where people feel welcomed, supported, and encouraged to slow down and prioritize themselves. Helping other women grow, whether it’s through mentorship, collaboration, or simply providing a place where they can thrive, brings me a lot of joy.
Beyond the business, my faith, personal growth, and the ability to turn challenges into purpose are what keep me grounded and happy. I’ve learned that happiness isn’t just about success—it’s about alignment. When what you’re doing serves others and stays true to who you are, happiness naturally follows.
“Happiness, to me, is helping others feel confident, supported, and seen—especially when they may not see it in themselves yet.”
