Inspiring Conversations with Michael Depriest of Touch Of Toast

Today we’d like to introduce you to Michael Depriest

Hi Michael, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
At a very young age, I learned the importance of hard work. Watching my mother provide everything we needed through sheer determination and By embracing the power of manifestation truly believing we can achieve anything we desire. That thought process is what set the foundation of my entrepreneurial passions.

Like I mentioned before, this work ethic became the foundation of my life, driving me to pursue my passions and create something of my own.

As a former student-athlete, I channeled the discipline and perseverance I gained from balancing sports, school, and multiple jobs into my journey of starting small businesses.

Over time, I diversified, launching businesses in different industries, such as event promotion, logistics, and hospitality.

Each built on the principles that have guided me from the start: hard work, innovation, and community. My commitment to serving the underserved and advocating for financial literacy became a central theme in my endeavors. Success, to me, isn’t just about numbers and growth; it’s about building something that creates a legacy.

Today, I’m running multiple businesses, passionate about life coaching, and driven by the desire to empower others.
I never forget where it all started—or the importance of balancing ambition.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Personally, I’ve never encountered an entrepreneur who had an easy journey, and my own path has been no exception. Embracing discomfort has become a part of my growth, enabling me to chase my passions and accept my thoughts. It’s crucial to slow down and listen to myself during this process.

One of my greatest areas of growth is managing my emotions when I realize that others don’t share my vision.
I’ve noticed that it’s more common to desire a start at the finish line instead of running the race.

For me, there’s beauty in the process—in the challenges, the growth, and the journey itself. I thrive in the race, while others seem to overlook its true value.

As you know, we’re big fans of Touch Of Toast. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
At Touch of Toast, we’re known for our gourmet sandwiches served on Texas toast, but we don’t stop there.

Our menu goes beyond the bread with delicious brunch options, including our signature take on a donut burger.

We also like to keep things exciting with occasional chef specials that showcase unique flavors.

Every sauce and jelly we serve is made from scratch, with a focus on seasoning and bold, flavorful food that’s sure to satisfy.

How do you think about luck?
My whole life has been full of lessons, a lot of which I didn’t really get until years later.

But I’ve always had this strong belief that every experience, no matter how small or tough, has something to teach me. There’s always something to learn, and over time, I’ve realized that even when things seem like they don’t matter, there’s growth happening. It’s funny how sometimes it takes years to finally understand why certain things happened. It’s like life gives you the answers when you’re ready to see them
