Inspiring Conversations with Michael Miller and Matt Sutton of M&M BBQ Company

Today we’d like to introduce you to Michael Miller and Matt Sutton.

Hi Michael and Matt, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My father, Mike, started in the BBQ world back in the 1990s and then ventured out on his own in the early 2000s, so I have been around BBQ for as long as I can remember! I can still remember going on service calls when I was just a kid to work on smokers all over the country! Over the next 15 years or so, I took a lot of notes on the common issues restaurants were having that we were servicing, how they could be fixed, and how to implement those needs in the smokers we build today. Matt is my head fabricator and co-designer, whom I’ve known since we were in elementary school, 28 years now…wow! He studied at WyoTech, which gave him a great foundation for fabrication, design, and paint. He then ventured to California and begin working in the high-end custom car world, but Texas and his best friend came calling!

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
As the saying goes, nothing worth having is easy. While I wouldn’t say we have been dragged through the mud the whole time, it certainly hasn’t been a cakewalk either! I think the biggest struggle we faced, along with so many others was COVID. We’ve faced labor shortages, material shortages, and corresponding material price increases. All the parts that we use have gone up and on some, there have been multiple increases inside of a 6-month span. As an example. metal today is 3 and 4 times what it was a year ago, and that’s if you can even find what you are looking for; stainless has been the most challenging. Even with all the craziness going on around us, we knew that there was only one option to make it or make it (NF – Options) there are no other options.

We’ve been impressed with M&M BBQ Company, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
We specialize in building innovative and cutting-edge commercial and residential BBQ equipment. We offer both offset and rotisserie-style units. Along with those, we also offer the El Rey/La Reina line (wood-fire grill) and a backyard offset. In every build we put out, we put our heart and soul into it, and we back it up with unparalleled service on the units. We want people to know that when you buy an M&M product, you are part of the M&M family and we will treat you just like family.

Before we go, is there anything else you can share with us?
We are proud to be part of the BBQ community. From Georgia to Pennsylvania, over to California and so many states in between and even outside the United States, the camaraderie is incredible. People will take time to talk about their craft, show you their pit rooms, and answer your questions. We have been to festivals were someone might run out of wood, plates, or even need to use some space on a smoker and someone is always will to help. There is something about fire and meat that bring people together and we appreciate the fact that building pits makes us a part of that community.
