Inspiring Conversations with Michella And Adam McCoy of Texas B.A.N.G. Basketball Club and High Tops Sports Courts

Today we’d like to introduce you to Michella And Adam McCoy.

Hi Michella and Adam, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Adam and Michella McCoy met in 2007 at the University of North Texas. Adam was a basketball player for the Mean Green, while Michella was working as an intern in the athletics department as she pursued her master’s degree in Sports Management. They continued dating through Adam’s professional basketball career overseas and started their family in 2013 with the birth of their son, Kaleb.

At that point, Adam made the decision to stay home and channel his passion for basketball in a new way. Both Adam and Michella went on to teach physical education and served as athletic directors at rival schools, gaining valuable experience in youth development and leadership. Their shared love for the game eventually led them to coaching AAU basketball.

In 2016, they founded the organization originally known as Texas Kamikaze, which later rebranded to Texas B.A.N.G.—standing for Believe, Achieve, and Never Give Up. What began as a high school summer travel team evolved as their own children, Kaleb and Jaxon, grew, prompting them to refocus on grassroots development. They restarted with second- and fourth-grade teams, emphasizing fundamentals, character, and growth.

Today, Texas B.A.N.G. has partnered with NBA player Taurean Prince of the Milwaukee Bucks and is now known as TXB Prince Elite, serving boys’ basketball players from 3rd through 8th grade and continuing their mission of developing young athletes on and off the court.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Nothing you start from scratch is ever completely smooth, and this journey was no exception. That said, our backgrounds helped a lot—serving as athletic directors and Michella having a master’s degree in Sports Management gave us a strong foundation, so in many ways it was a smoother ride than it could have been.

The biggest challenge early on was simply capacity. At one point, it was just the two of us coaching five teams. We never had a day off. Every weekend we were in the gym, often dividing age groups and juggling schedules because there was no one else to step in. It was rewarding, but also exhausting.

Over the last year, bringing on two additional coaches has been a game changer. It’s allowed us to better serve our athletes, grow the program the right way, and finally find a healthier balance between basketball and life.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Texas B.A.N.G. Basketball Club and High Tops Sports Courts?
Texas B.A.N.G. is a year-round travel basketball organization dedicated to developing young men from 3rd through 8th grade through elite coaching, intentional training, and a strong foundation of values. We believe in slow, purposeful growth so that every athlete receives the attention, structure, and support they need to truly develop.

In addition to our teams, we also own and operate High Tops Sports Courts, the facility our program is based out of. High Tops is more than just a gym—it’s a community hub. We offer court rentals, private events, sports training, homeschool PE classes, and host tournaments, creating a space where families and athletes can grow together.

What truly sets Texas B.A.N.G. apart is our family-like atmosphere and our commitment to developing the whole child. We’re known for pouring into our players—on and off the court—by teaching leadership, accountability, and confidence. Our athletes aren’t just learning how to play basketball; they’re learning how to be leaders in their schools, homes, and communities.

Basketball-wise, we pride ourselves on teaching the game the right way—real basketball. In a time when AAU can look very different than it once did, we focus on fundamentals, team play, and IQ: man-to-man defense, understanding zone, ball movement, and unselfish play. We show up every weekend with the same team, and we take pride in that consistency and commitment.

Brand-wise, what we’re most proud of is our integrity. Texas B.A.N.G. is a non-profit organization built on respect, love, and service. We treat every player and every family like they matter—because they do. Our goal is simple: to build elite athletes, strong leaders, and confident young men who are prepared for life beyond the game.
