Inspiring Conversations with Mika McClain of Luminis Energy and Wonderful Me

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mika McClain

Hi Mika, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I grew up in Oceanside, California, raised by a single mom who did the best she could with what she knew. There were struggles, trauma, and moments that shaped me in ways I didn’t fully understand at the time. But instead of letting my past define me, I started my journey to discover who I truly am when my son was nine years old.

That journey led me to meditation, breathwork, and deep inner healing. I learned about the nervous system, the power of therapy, and different ways to heal and break generational cycles. And when I became a young mother, I made a decision, I was going to raise my son differently. I wanted to give him the emotional tools I never had growing up, but I didn’t have a roadmap. So, I started reading. I studied child development, emotional intelligence, and anything that could help me guide him in a healthier, more conscious way.

Then came 2020. COVID forced the world to slow down, and like so many parents, I found myself at home navigating new challenges with my son. He has ADHD, and I was searching for ways to help him stay grounded and connected during such an uncertain time. One of the things that helped him most was journaling. It became our daily practice, an outlet for his thoughts, emotions, and reflections. But as I searched for journals designed for kids, I realized something, there weren’t many that truly spoke to their inner world. So, I created one.

That’s how the Wonderful Me Journal was born.

I wanted to create something more than just a journal, I wanted a tool that helped kids connect with themselves, build self-awareness, and trust their own intuition. Society often teaches us to make decisions solely from our minds, but I believe true confidence comes from aligning both head and heart. When children learn to trust themselves early on, they develop unshakable self-belief, and that’s exactly what the Wonderful Me Journal is designed to cultivate.

As my son grew into his teenage years, I saw the need for something tailored to older kids, so I created the Wonderful Teen Journal, dedicating it to him. Teens face a whole new set of challenges, and I wanted to give them a space to process, reflect, and build the resilience they need to navigate life.

At the heart of both journals is a deep belief that children who know themselves, trust themselves, and love themselves grow into powerful, confident adults. That’s the mission behind Wonderful Me.

These journals aren’t just books they’re tools for transformation. And if they can help even one child feel more seen, heard, and understood, then every part of this journey has been worth it.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Smooth? Not even close. I’ve faced trauma, self-doubt, and countless challenges.

Growing up, I faced trauma that I didn’t fully understand until adulthood. That pain influenced how I saw myself, made decisions, and even parented. When I had my son at a young age, I knew I wanted to raise him differently, but I didn’t have the tools. That realization was both empowering and terrifying, how do you give your child something you never had?

So I started healing, unlearning survival patterns, breaking cycles, and doing the inner work.

Bringing the Wonderful Me Journal to life wasn’t easy. I had to figure out everything, publishing, marketing, and fighting off thoughts of why me? But once I sent it to friends and saw their kids using it, the feedback was positive. Parents told me how much it helped their children open up and build confidence. That’s when I realized this journal was bigger than me. So I created Wonderful Teen, giving older kids a space to reflect and grow.

The journey hasn’t been smooth, but every challenge led me here. And I wouldn’t change a thing.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Luminis Energy and Wonderful Me?
Luminis Energy and Wonderful Me are two very different businesses, but they both stem from the same core belief, creating solutions that empower people.

With Luminis Energy, I saw a need and decided to do something about it. As an electric vehicle owner, I know firsthand how frustrating it can be to find fast, reliable charging. There simply aren’t enough chargers, and the ones that exist are often inconvenient or in use. That’s why we help people monetize their unused parking spaces by turning them into EV charging stations. It’s a win-win, property owners generate passive income, and EV drivers get more access to charging. It’s about innovation, sustainability, and making electric vehicle ownership easier for everyone.

Then there’s Wonderful Me, which is all about helping kids and teens build confidence, emotional intelligence, and self-awareness. I created the Wonderful Me Journal and Wonderful Teen Journal to give kids a space to reflect, process their emotions, and learn to trust themselves. Society often teaches us to rely on logic alone, but real confidence comes from aligning both the head and heart. These journals help kids do exactly that.

What sets these brands apart is the intention behind them. Luminis Energy isn’t just about charging cars, it’s about reshaping the future of EV infrastructure. Wonderful Me isn’t just about journaling, it’s about empowering the next generation with tools to thrive.

Brand-wise, I’m most proud of the impact. Knowing that kids feel more confident because of the journals or that EV drivers have an easier time charging because of Luminis Energy, that’s what keeps me going.

For readers: Whether you’re an EV driver, a property owner looking for a new revenue stream, a parent wanting to help your child build confidence, or a teen looking for a space to reflect, there’s something here for you.

Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
Resilience and trusting the unknown.

Life has thrown a lot of challenges my way, but resilience is what has kept me moving forward. Whether it was overcoming personal trauma, navigating motherhood without a roadmap, or stepping into entrepreneurship with no experience, I’ve had to push through doubt, setbacks, and uncertainty.

But just as important as resilience is trusting the unknown. The truth is, everything in life is uncertain. We may think we have control, but at any moment, things can shift. Instead of resisting that, I’ve learned to embrace it. Trusting the unknown has allowed me to take risks, follow my intuition, and create something meaningful, both with Wonderful Me and Luminis Energy.

Success isn’t about having a perfect plan, it’s about the willingness to adapt, learn, and keep showing up, even when you don’t have all the answers.
