Today we’d like to introduce you to Mone’t Smith.
Hi Mone’t, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Going through High School and entering into my first years of college, my first career mindset was becoming a nurse. My passion is to care for and help people. After graduating from college with a Bachelors in Sociology and minor in Women’s studies, I started my first job working for Child Protective Services in Tarrant County. I served 8 years as an Investigator and my mind grew wiser from listening to others. Mental health started to rise and at that point I knew what I wanted my career to be. I no longer wanted to be a nurse but a mental health therapist. I went back to school and obtained my master’s degree in Forensic Psychology in 2011. Obtaining 3 years of experience working at a local psychiatric hospital opened my eyes to many different aspects of mental health and the high need of therapist within the community and world. In 2020, I opened up my private practice Healing Deep Roots Counseling PLLC during the covid shutdown. Mental Health grew and virtual counseling was in need. I worked part-time running my own practice out of my home and full-time as a social/behavioral counselor for Uplift education providing mental health services.
In July 2022, I officially launched my private practice full-time and provide mental health counseling full-time to teens and adults. I also run a teen (13 and up) program on Tuesday focusing on creating barriers, social skills, creating safe spaces, and learning ways to cope with current stressors. I also own a non-profit teen mentorship program that runs year around called the Circle of Sistahood, Our purpose is to promote prosocial youth activities, curriculum, and teaching principles that will encourage the increase of growth, leadership, and reinforcing skill sets; ultimately while decreasing the silence and breaking the stigma barriers of mental health in our communities. We are strong advocates for sustaining a community culture of healing minds and restoring souls.
My focus and goal is to assist with growing mindsets, help heal hearts and give each client my undivided attention to push them towards their goal to succeed.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Work/life balance is always a challenge. Being self-employed takes a lot of time, energy, and focus.
We’ve been impressed with Healing Deep Roots Counseling, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Healing Deep Roots Counseling is a mental health private practice focusing on helping individuals heal, energize, and become aware of their inner strengths. We use an eclectic therapeutic approach in order to meet the client’s direct needs, but our primary therapeutic use is evidence-based practice skills to include cognitive-behavioral therapy, mindfulness/ motivation, stress relief skills, client-centered therapy, and solution-focused counseling. We also offer Teen girl support groups for teen girls ages 13-17 years old to focus on enhancing mental health awareness, teaching healthy ways to cope, creating a safe space, and decreasing affected barriers within the community.
One of the greatest assets is being an African American therapist and able to connect and increase mental health awareness within the minority community.
I accept all major insurances and some EAPS
We offer virtual (telehealth) services, and we are able to offer services to client in the states of Texas and Florida.
What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
I love the diversity and a vast of many different business opportunities. I dislike the traffic and how hateful the drivers can be.
