Inspiring Conversations with Nick Reed of Reed Services LLC

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nick Reed.

Hi Nick, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I started my business in July of 2016 back in my home state of Colorado. I started as an absolute “one man band” with one truck and minimal tools as well as knowledge, but with the passion to own a business of my own. I focused strictly on handyman type work or general home maintenance items as well as exterior landscaping tasks from mowing the lawn to throwing some new mulch down. This quickly evolved and scaled over the course of the following seven years where when I moved to Texas to “follow” or be with my son I had become a licensed GC where I was primarily focusing on larger commercial properties for the grounds keeping whether that was completing the necessary servicing of the sod/lawn, irrigation system, arborist work as well as then the snow removal and ice mitigation in the winter months. Though that was my primary focus, with becoming a licensed general contractor, I also spent most of my time while my employees or crews were out in the field on bidding on and solidifying remodel and new construction projects for both interior as well as exterior in the residential and commercial world. At Reed Services LLC peak in Colorado, I had an office/warehouse, five trucks, 4 trailers, commercial lawn equipment, two plow trucks, two ATV’s equipped with plows, a UTV equipped with a plow, and then any/all tools for both interior and exterior to build a house, a building…..any structure interior or exterior in the construction world. Liquidating my business and selling my current commercial contracts I had was the easiest….most difficult decision I’ve made in my entire life. That probably doesn’t make a whole lot of sense…so let me explain a bit further. I have only one baby or child in this life and that’s my son (Layton) who is currently 12 years old. Though he has been and will forever be my number one priority and my only “baby” my business was an extremely close second, but distant second to him and with that being said….making the ultimate decision to walk away from my business that I had literally put my blood sweat and tears into was not an easy task at all! So many tears, sleepless nights and me questioning the ultimate decision was SO HARD….but so easy because guess what….I want and needed to be with my son 100% of the time and trying to navigate being in Texas with my son, but yet still having a business in Texas just wasn’t working at all!

When I made the ultimate decision to be in Texas and sold/liquidated my business in Colorado, at that point I was very bitter and didn’t even want to consider continuing my entrepreneurship mind…..I was hurt, confused, felt defeated and was just bitter at myself, my life and ultimately where I was at. Though I feel those with an entrepreneur mind never lose that burning internal desire…..my internal roasting fire for business growth and success and depleted to a small little pumpkin candle. Nonetheless……here I am with a continued successful growing business in Texas by the grace of god, amazing clients, the loving individuals in my life that are both business contacts and those that just see the passion and burning desire inside me to overcome any/all odds of being an entrepreneur, supporting my vision to succeed and hopefully create a legacy or story to inspire those with similar mindsets for generations to come.

From the beginning of time for Reed Services LLC I have either had back in Colorado or have here today in Texas, individuals that were the President of large national grocery stores, extremely successful business owners, morning show radio personalities, NFL player, to an American conservative political commentator, author, and media personality (that is work $500+ million dollars. All of the above being said, I have been blessed and I have absolutely proven to myself that entrepreneurship is where my strengths and comfort lies.

I have SO much more that I want to share and hopefully get the opportunity to do so! I just need the help from a professional to help me just hit the most important or intriguing parts/pieces of my story to keep the audience engaged. I promise….with the help of a professional, we can keep the audience reading! MY STORY IS CRAZY AND UNIQUE on so many levels!

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
***All of these bullet points below are strictly just related to by business/entrepreneurship story.***

-My two story fall accident on October 4th 2016.
-My employee Justin’s accident that resulted in him losing half of his lower left leg and right big toe.
-Poor monumental business decision to start a buying process of another landscaping business in Colorado.
-Poor judgement and continued with hiring of employees or independent contractors. (Industry struggle).
-Office/warehouse/trucks/equipment being broken into and stolen.
-Decision to go into business partnership with an individual in Texas that didn’t last longer than three months before it failed.

PLEASE ask for more details on any/all of these bullet points or topics. I would love to elaborate on all, but wasn’t sure of the appropriate format or how it would be edited.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
I’m a licensed GC (general contractor) that originated in Colorado. Clique or easy as the words or description says….from “roots to roof” look no further that my business and those I’m partnered with. Whether it be residential, commercial, single family, multi family, maintenance, repair, remodel or new construction let us be your source…..We’ve got you covered!

I pride myself on the communication and integrity of Reed Services LLC and ALL partnered with. I have my few “pet peeves” and one of the absolute most important piece for me to a successful business as well as life is COMMUNICATION! Specifically in the construction business world, there are always moving or changing components which then creates the importance of communication. WITHOUT COMMUNICATION WE HAVE NOTHING! Communication is the foundation of my life both on a persona and business level!

I’m most proud of brand wise is that my business name is my last name as well…..silly…..perhaps…..but that is very prideful to me!

I want or hope to know that the readers, listeners and/or viewers know that you have a GC that has your best interest at heart and wants to create a lasting relationship that’s beneficial and felt good by ALL! I want to make you life easier by streamlining everything through me and my business partners so that you don’t have to build or find businesses in all the different lines or scopes of work.

Alright so before we go can you talk to us a bit about how people can work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
Networking, networking and networking! The support and collaboration is all built on communication and the expression or terms of “two way street” or “I’ll scratch your back if you’ll scratch mine!” To me I feel this to be very basic and yet its a passion of mine that I love so much! I want to see “my people” succeed and accomplish their goals in life and thrive! Being that I have those strong feelings, I’m always promoting my “inner circle” business owners or entrepreneurs in hope that by me “showing my love” in doing so, that they do the same for me! It’s an absolute huge “feel good” or “flex” when someone says that “Joe Blow” referred me to you and would never consider using anyone but you and your business…..that’s absolutely what gets in my feel good passion for co-op, collaborative or support group system!
