Inspiring Conversations with Nicole Butler of Center To Rise Wellness Spa Studio

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nicole Butler.

Hi Nicole Butler, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Founded and fiercely led by two sisters, Nicole Butler & Christina Tuggle, Center To Rise Wellness is proud to celebrate five years of dedicated service. This milestone is a testament to the power of shared vision and resilience, marking a period defined by profound growth, learning, and deep community impact. Since opening our doors, we have established ourselves as a vital resource committed to expanding access to high-quality mental healthcare and professional development for all.

Expanding Access and Fostering Growth
Over the past five years, Center To Rise Wellness has built a comprehensive clinical foundation centered on accessibility and excellence: We provide services in multiple states, Texas, Tennessee, Nevada, Georgia, Florida, Utah, California, and Arkansas.

Clinical Services: We have successfully served our community by offering essential services, including Individual, Group, and Family Therapy, addressing a broad spectrum of mental health needs.

Commitment to Education: Recognizing the need to cultivate the next generation of mental health professionals, we provide robust Internship and Practicum Opportunities. We have proudly mentored students in both Bachelor’s and Master’s programs for Social Work, as well as aspiring Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner students.

Investment in Staff: Our commitment to excellence ensures we hire the best providers and continuously offer staff and community trainings focused on advanced psychotherapy techniques.

Dedicated Community Philanthropy
Our mission extends beyond the clinic walls. Center To Rise Wellness actively invests in the well-being of the broader community through significant philanthropic efforts:

Financial Aid: We have donated over $10,000 in free or reduced psychotherapy to ensure financial barriers do not prevent individuals from receiving necessary care.

Annual Initiatives: We host an annual Menstrual Party tailored for adolescents and teens (ages 7 and up), promoting health education and body positivity.

Health and Advocacy Sponsorships: We are a dedicated supporter of various health initiatives, including participation in the Breast Cancer Awareness Walk and providing assistance to help Prostate Cancer afford necessary medications.

Rare Disease Support: We proudly serve as a sponsor for non-profit organizations dedicated to rare diseases, such as The Rare Love Walk.

Supporting Our Heroes and Shaping the Future
We maintain a steadfast commitment to those who serve and to thought leadership in the mental health field:

Military and Veterans Support: We provide focused family support for Veterans and active-duty military individuals dealing with Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), recognizing the unique challenges faced by service families.

Educational Support: Center To Rise is a proud sponsor of Educational Tours and academic scholarships, fostering educational achievement within the community.

Thought Leadership: Most recently, our leadership contributed to the national conversation on mental health by speaking at the Dallas Thrive Summit on the current state of the field.

As we look forward, Center To Rise Wellness is energized by the progress of the last five years and remains committed to advancing mental health support and clinical excellence for our community.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Operational and Financial Hurdles for a Mental Health Agency
The core struggles faced by your agency center on managing the cash flow cycle while mitigating the impact of financial barriers on patient care and maintaining a robust clinical team.

1. The Patient Financial Burden (Access and Adherence)
The primary struggle impacting your participants is the financial burden of treatment.

Copays and Deductibles: Participants often face significant stress because they are unable to pay their copays and/or deductibles.

Impact on Care: This financial challenge directly compromises treatment quality by causing significant stress for the participant and leading to the delay or reduction of the appropriate number of sessions needed for effective therapy. This creates an ethical and clinical dilemma, as financial hardship interferes with necessary care adherence.

2. Business Cash Flow and Accounts Receivable Delays
From a business perspective, the most challenging operational hurdle is the disconnect between services rendered and payment received.

Delayed Reimbursement: Your agency often experiences a significant lag in payment, sometimes receiving funds 30 to 90 days after services are rendered by the clinicians. This extended accounts receivable cycle creates persistent cash flow pressure.

3. Mitigating Risk and Prioritizing Staff Compensation
Despite the extreme financial pressure caused by delayed insurance payments, your agency demonstrates a significant strength and commitment: prioritizing timely therapist compensation.

Financial Commitment: You ensure that all contracted therapists are paid on time, regardless of whether the company has been reimbursed by the insurance plans or not.

Value Proposition: This practice takes pride in guaranteeing that all therapists are financially compensated on time and at a decent rate. This commitment is a critical strategic effort, recognizing that the clinical staff are the essential backbone: “Without them, we wouldn’t be here.” This commitment helps the agency attract and retain high-quality providers, which is vital for clinical success.

In summary, your agency successfully manages the internal commitment to staff stability, but this requires substantial internal financial discipline and resilience to bridge the gap caused by patient financial barriers and lengthy insurance reimbursement cycles.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
