Today we’d like to introduce you to Patricia McCoy.
Hi Patricia, so excited to have you on the platform. So, before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I learned to braid at the age of 9. Hair has always been a passion but I never felt like it could be my livelihood. I received my braiders certification in 2005 when it was required by the state and braided as a side hustle. In 2018 I walked away from my full-time job and decide to pursue braiding full time. It was not an easy transition but has been one of the most rewarding decisions I have ever made.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The journey hasn’t been easy but it’s one that has been a learning lesson and a blessing all wrapped up in one. In 2018 I worked in the back of a barbershop and started to build my clientele. I had a short time in a personal suite and also in a beauty salon, but that was just a season. In 2020, I opened THE BRAID BAR, which my vision was to provide a space to braiders to build their clientele and business. Working through that phase of my business taught me never stop learning, never stop listening, and never stop becoming a better you.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Mistixlookz offers various braid styles from knotless braids, crochets, locs, and creative braids. My newfound passion is for microlocs and the maintenance they require. I am continually learning about them so that I can provide the best quality of hair care to my current and future clients. The thing that I feel separates me from other braiders is that I treat my business as my profession. I have a particular work ethic when it comes to my practice and I stand behind my brand. I pride myself on being timely, dependable, trustworthy, and very straightforward about my work and services.
Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
My city is Longview!!! I was told years ago that you can’t be successful in your hometown and you won’t get support!!! NOT TRUE!!! Longview has been one of the shop’s biggest supporting groups, whether it’s through services, referrals, or social media
