Today we’d like to introduce you to Patrick Collins.
Hi Patrick, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My major at Texas Tech was advertising and I thought I was going to be the next Don Draper until I looked behind the curtain through a few internships. I wanted to be in a career that I my effort and results directly dictate growth, longer term stability, flexibility and know what I’m doing matters. All of those thing pointed to a role in sales.
Before the Rawls College of Business career fair I mapped out every sales company and was prepared to find what I was looking for. The night before the career fair I received a text from Goosehead Insurance (previously TWG Insurance) saying we saw your resume and invited me to come visit their booth. Advertising to insurance? Big stretch but I put it last on my list of stops. After a day of talking to recruiters, the second I had a conversation with a real sales rep from Goosehead Insurance, it was a breath of fresh air. That was the moment I put all my eggs into the Goosehead basket.
What sold me on Goosehead was the culture. As I mentioned they brought sales agents to the career fair (still do today) and I knew these were the type of people I would want to learn from. Young, hungry, confident. All had a similar story where insurance was never on their radar.
I started in 2011 as an Account Executive which is a fancy word for to being an insurance agent focused on selling home/auto insurance. I started my career with results less than desirable and continued to learn from agents more successful that me. Eventually, I hit my stride hitting sales goals earning the promotion of Senior Account Executive. In 2019, I was promoted to sales manager and 2024 to managing direction or sales.
At the core of my job, I find the most fun, fulfillment in networking and providing clients and my referral partners a consultative approach to buying insurance.
In 2026, I’ve made the decision to open a Goosehead Franchise opening February 2026!
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Absolutely, not. All I knew about insurance coming into the role was my mom would mail me a copy of my ID cards to put in my glove box every 6/mo. Learning the ins and outs of insurance is like learning a foreign language. Learning that “new language” and translating that into terms everyone can understand took time and lot of repetitions. The other struggle is every clients needs/wants, goals and overall insurance picture is unique to them. No situation is identical. Combining those together is extremely complex.
How I got new clients to quote was networking with real estate professionals like realtors and mortgage loan officers. Cold calling or making unexpected pop in visits to their offices was scary. I learned quickly that networking in college was nothing like networking with business professionals who have been working for 10+ years. I found the balance of being myself, having confidence and crushing the little nervous voice in your head telling me to do the opposite.
Lasty, handling rejection is hard. I had a mentor tell me handling rejection is a skill you can learn, not a personality trait. Every rejections leads to the next opportunity. I live by that!
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about The Collins Agency – Goosehead Insurance?
In February 2026, I am launching a Goosehead Insurance franchise named The Collins Agency. My mission is to provide clients and referral partners a consultative, expert level approach to purchasing insurance. The types of insurance I specialize in are home, auto, landlord (rental property), renters, umbrella, boat, RV, motorcycle, life and etc. I say, if you live somewhere or drive, I can probably insure you. As a broker, I shop with 40+ different carriers like Progressive, GEICO, Liberty Mutual, Travelers, Farmers and Allstate.
What sets me apart from every other insurance agent is the time I will spend with you to understand your unique situation and explaining the insurance you are buying in a digestible way. It is a red flag if an agent emails a quote without explanation. Don’t worry, my process is still quick like all the insurance advertisers promise. Whether I become your new agent or not, I want every client to walk away feeling confident in their decision.
What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
One characteristic I have is positivity. Rarely am I not smiling, laughing or having a good time with my clients and referral partners. Insurance is complicated and can be dull so coming in with a positive attitude to every scenario is needed for all parties.
One skill/quality I really pride myself on is quick and transparent communication. Something I heard early in my career and still to this day from real estate professionals is insurance agents not picking up the phone when someone calls, returning missed calls/voicemails/texts or emails in a timely manner. I will always pick up the phone if I’m available and always return calls, texts and emails. It sounds so simple but it’s something I pride myself on.
