Today we’d like to introduce you to Phyllis Nickum-Golden.
Hi Phyllis, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
As a long-time hotelier, I had worked (and turned around hotels) from Seattle to New York City and all points in between. I found myself in Amarillo, Texas, to take over and restore 4 hotels, and I immediately fell in love with the Texas Panhandle and the Western Culture. Having grown up in Texas, it felt like I was coming back home. After numerous years restoring Amarillo’s Finest Hotel, I decided I wanted to start a Western Tourism Business on my ranch in Amarillo – and did.
We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The career switch was not always smooth, but that has made the experience fun, exciting, and rewarding.
No real struggles out of the ordinary. “Anything worth having is worth working hard for.” Being in business for many years and turning around struggling hotels helped keep expectations in check.
I am a very hard-working and positive person.
