Today we’d like to introduce you to Punyawee Phillips.
Hi Punyawee, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I was a teacher and school principal from Thailand. I got married and relocated to USA 17 years ago. I studied at TWU Denton , hopefully to enter Physical Therapy school. I ended up to become a Massage Therapist after I lost my husband from car accident Life is challenging, but incredibly surprisingly to me as I found out that I meant to become a massage therapist. I love to give massage and love to see my clients feeling better from their problems. It’s mean so much more than just giving body massage, but it’s also healing people both mind and body at the same time. I worked for others Therapist for 2 years 2 different places then I opened my own small 2 beds studio massage. I really wanted to expand my shop, but I was not ready at that time . What I believe is , It’s doesn’t matter how my shop big or small. The matter are if I am good enough? I stand for professional and maintain service standards for everyone. I believe the customer voice are more important than just fancy place without quality. My expertise is mostly in medical massage area. I remembered even I was a new therapist I helped my client survive from getting feet surgery. I asked my client to give me a chance to find the way to help at the same his surgeon already told him he needed surgery to get rid of his problems, guess what?? Until now, almost 3 years already, his feet are good without surgery and he even called me doctor. His whole family came to get massage with me. His mother will always told him to come get massage from me once his body aches. Unlucky he was a survivor from car accident, that’s why so many problems he had. It’s not just one customer, but I have done most likely same thing to my clients and they became my friends and even family of course, I still maintain our boundaries as it should be. I am very proud of my profession and really hope to increase the professionalism to all massage therapist especially in our Asian community. I planned to do both Thai massage and Medical massage. In the future, I also planned to train more people who wanted to become a massage therapist as I will become an instructor. I wanted to introduce good massage to people since so many people still not see how important it is to get massage. What I can really do is continue my work and helping my colleagues to become more professional. My daughter is 24 years old now, she is 100% Thai from my previous marriage. She is also a professional massage therapist. Her expertise is sport massage, she is now works two different places at the Physical Therapy office and at Thai massage shop. She also focuses to go for Physical Therapy school. Later on , once I expand my business in to fully massage shop, she will also join me. I hope more people will be comfortable to try to get massage . If you can’t decide where to start or try. I will be very happy to work on you. Welcome to Thai Magic Massage. Thank you .
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Nothing will be smooth at the beginning. Since I started my business at the Salon Suite. Especially, my shop is on the 2nd floor. I had a hard time passing verification for my address and confirmation from Google. That’s mean, not advertised and no one can find me on google. The challenges is about how to put my shop out for people to find and come to me. At the beginning I have to advertise on Creglist and even Market place on facebook. 99% of the customers will asked for special services which is not in my service and I can’t get the customer.s. Now ii got verified and able to put advertisements on google still even I got 5 stars reviews some customers still ask me for extra service which is not for professional. It’s because, I am Asian? I don’t know, maybe, that’s why I want to provide the best professional massage for everyone so my shop will become the family place that everyone feels comfortable to walk in.

My last book I read is “Read people like a book.” I like to know and understand people. The more you understand people the better you know how to handle them and treat them right. The service is one of the key of success, so I will do my best to serve my customers as in the scope of practice.
