Inspiring Conversations with Roderica Johnson of J’Voguish Clothing

Today we’d like to introduce you to Roderica Johnson.

Hi Roderica, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
My name is Roderica “Rica” Johnson. I was born and raised in Fort Worth, Tx. Since I was a kid I’ve always been about family and sports. Those two things kept me on the right track and kept me level-headed. As time went on, my love for fashion grew as well. By the time I reached college, I began to notice different clothing brands like VampLife by Jim Jones. I figured one day I could start my clothing brand that would not only be fashionable but meaningful as well.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Nothing in life is smooth. It’s all about learning how to turn lemons into lemonade. In other words, taking a negative situation and turning it into something positive. I’ve taken many losses when it comes to building my brand and business.
Just to name a few, dealing with the quality of inventory, learning how to resolve the issue with the manufacturer, and budgeting with limited funds. In dealing with these hardships, I’ve come to understand that each of these experiences has been a lesson learned. As much as I would like for things to be perfect, sometimes struggles are what’s needed to help you appreciate the process and the result.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
The name J’Voguish Clothing originated back in 2012 from a vision of wanting to build a legacy for my family (hence the J in J’Voguish). All I had to start my brand was, the name, 50 Gildan shirts, and a $500 split between me and my big brother. 5 years later, it soon morphed into something bigger than my original vision. It became something that wasn’t only meaningful to me but something that people could relate to in different aspects of their life.

We specialize in providing comfy and fashionable clothing that represents something bigger than J’Voguish/Coach’Em. J’Voguish is a brand that is geared toward designer fashion whereas Coach’Em is essentially sportswear. We provide some of the best quality clothes with sleek designs, whether you’re wanting designer or sportswear.

Coach’Em is bigger than me. Some people tend to think it’s all about sports or coaching. Yet, they fail to realize that we’re all coaches of this game we call life. We’re all trying to Coach’Em to Reach’Em in some capacity; whether it’s to coach’em to make the right decisions, stay on the right track, or not give up.

Our Motto: Coach’Em isn’t just about sports, it’s about advancing in the game of life.

What are your plans for the future?
One of my biggest goals for the future is to gain a broader audience of customers. I would love to see Coach’Em in stores such as House of Hoops, Champs, Finishline, or Nike around the United States. I want to positively impact others around the world to be great leaders and know they are capable of doing anything they put their minds to while looking fashionable.
