Inspiring Conversations with Ruben & Megan Melendez of Ranch Water Events

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ruben & Megan Melendez.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
We bought raw land before we were married and decided to have our wedding on our property. Ruben is an incredible welder & fabricator and built a shipping container bar for our wedding. This was the initial spark for Ranch Water Events! We love hosting friends and bringing a little extra over-the-top flair to everything we do. It’s a running joke that we had a full-on bar on our land before a house or even finished plumbing!

From that small spark, we decided this was something we both thought would be really enjoyable and rewarding. We found this 80’s cattle trailer on Facebook marketplace & Ruben was able to completely restore & revamp this already beautiful trailer. We kept the original patina look & he restored the original white & black pin striping throughout. This trailer was too long to only be a bar. We had the idea to split the trailer into sections and create a mobile bar & photo booth combo trailer! Our clients love how unique & different our trailer is compared to what is already out there. The typical cattle trailer bar is either all-white or all-black. We took a risk with our patina, pinstripes, massive horns on the front, and velvet curtains BUT different was great in our case! Luckily! We are very proud of the trailer we created and look forward to adding more unique finds to our fleet!

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
In many ways, the trailer was a saving grace. I lost my dad at the beginning of 2021, and being able to connect with people who were happy & celebrating fun big milestone moments was good for me! My dad was always the life of the party and a bartender when he was younger. He would’ve been so stoked to see this business and would’ve probably tried to be one of our bartenders just to see if he “still had it”! The biggest challenge was moving forward with such a special business and not being able to share it with my dad.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?

Can you share something surprising about yourself?
I’m not sure if this comes as a surprise or not considering the cattle trailer, but we raise goats and just had 3 baby goats born in January. Dolly, Darlene & Dave
