Hi Ryan , can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I started in the logistics field, after pursuing a professional basketball career. My last stop was in the NBL Canada with the Cape Breton Highlanders, after being released I had other opportunities elsewhere, but after some praying and a long talk with my agent, I decided to retire and start my own business. After obtaining my dealer’s license, I started buying and selling cars via auctions. I came across an old beat up cargo van that I purchased for $800. After preparing the van to be sold, my father convinced me to use the van to make deliveries on the side.
I liked the idea, so I started creating ads on craigslist offering delivery services. It quickly became a money maker. As time went along, my business expanded by partnering with other companies to handle their everyday deliveries. Since then, I have expanded the company fleet and obtained contracts with high-end furniture, renovation and home improvement companies: handling middle and final mile deliveries. Aside from the deliveries, we offer additional services such as 3PL, moving, LTL, and junk removal.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I’m a firm believer that God gives his toughest battles to his strongest soldiers. Being as young as I am and learning a new industry, I’ve encountered my fair share of challenges. This industry is capital intensive and expensive. I pay more in insurance than I do for my mortgage. The trucks are extremely expensive to repair and maintain and good help is hard to acquire and retain. 2020 was a tough year especially dealing with Covid-19 pandemic, but through God’s grace and a loyal clientele, we have overcome many obstacles thrown our way. Mistakes are few and far between, but when they happen, we learn from them and correct it.

Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
Go above and beyond for your clients and customers. It is important to go the extra mile for the customer as you are trying to build a good reputation. Repeated mistakes will quickly bring your business to an end. People are putting their trust in you to carefully handle their items that they spent their hard earned money on. I wish I would have had a mentor in this industry, as I was just starting out. A mentor could have helped me avoid a lot of unnecessary mistakes. If there is anyone that wants to break into this industry, I want them to know that I am an available resource!
